Interview with Ronald - a Homeless Vietnam Veteran with PTSD

I interviewed Ronald Frankford in front of the New Orleans Mission shelter on April 7, 2010. Ronald was wounded in Vietnam in 1969 and won several medals for his service. He has since suffered from Posttramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and had been homeless for the past 12 years. He shared some of his story with me which sadly has too much in common with so many Veterans in America today. PLEASE SHARE!

I am in tears as I listened to Ronald 's interview. His question " why don't they untrain you" is a good question. I am currently working on my masters in counseling in order to help veteran's with PTSD. This should not be. These men and women who have served their country deserve so much more. I Thank You Ronald for you service to this country.

Thank you for your service Ronald. Its terrible that you've been forgotten by your government. I love this country, but dont care for the people that run it. You deserve better than this

It breaks my heart that America turned their backs on them and thank God for Dave Christian and other veterans that fought for what recognition and help they do have.

The saddest thing about this video is the fact that this man fought for a country that didn't want him. The Vietnam war was truly terrible. The veterans came home and were spit on and harassed.

Both my husbands were combat vets and have been home for 55 yrs. Both are successful but still nervous, volatile, hyper-vigilant, paranoid, and always aware of their surroundings. Both were involved in numerous serious confrontations and injured. They need to be engaged in some sort of activity at all times, sleep very little and still have flash backs. Both were mistreated upon returning home and refuse to acknowledge their service although they would do it over again. We should do more for our Vets. It is shameful to have them on the streets😡😔

PTSD is a mysterious thing.
Poem titled, “My place has changed."

My place has changed,
From the things once seen.
To where I do not know.
Only I can say ‘I can return.’
Only I can find that way
To my source in life,
With the time I have left
I must overcome.
It’s I who must come back.

This is how i feel sometimes, this is how we all feel when we cover up our own truth, thats why psychedelics have the power to show you how hidden from introspection you are, that is why we all are doomed to prefer ignorance for bliss at a certain time for a disturbing truth of our own, anyway, i digress. What i want to say is that this man is completely woke to his fears and truths, yet, he is obliged to live in this precarious conditions given the social model. It is a shame, i really thank the veterans for so much, im not even a northamerican, i just think: "wow, this is a whole different way of living life.".
