RETROPIE SETUP TUTORIAL - Game Galaxy

I have plugged in my hyperkin six button controller and gone to configure input. It doesn’t detect the controller. What is wrong?

When I boot up the Pi I always get Kernel Panic: VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (179, 2)

Is it possible to set up a six button layout for genesis games? Seems like I’m stuck with a three button layout and that makes playing blackthorn really difficult

Is Etcher better or worse or same as Apple Pie Baker? That's what I used to flash the sd card when I made mine

I have ssh enabled, ip is correct, still no connection. I have tried cyberduck and filezilla.
Error: Server unexpectedly closed network connection

I wish I could message you on email or Facebook because I have problems with my Pi 3. I bought it off eBay ready to go with retropie already working and set up. I use their included snes controller in a controller port and the emulators start right up and I can play. But when I want to play n64, I need a controller like my Logitech one. It recognizes it and allows me to start putting inputs for the buttons, but once I get to inputting for the buttons, things stop getting assigned and then it's stuck on the input configuration screen and I can't get anywhere or exit out of it.

The thing came with a wireless keyboard controller but I don't understand how to use it
