After extensive testing and careful consideration, Edmunds lists the best family cars. Carlos Lago and Will Kaufman go through the top ranked SUVs, trucks, sedans, wagons and minivans that have families in mind.

In this video, we explain our findings and call out the specific features that make each vehicle our favorite. If the SUV, truck, car or van that you like isn't in this video, be sure to visit Edmunds to see where it landed.

Best Family SUVs

2019 Honda CR-V 1:30
The Honda CR-V is easy to recommend. A spunky turbocharged engine and a comfortable, roomy interior with tons of cargo space make it a strong pick. There are a few mild annoyances from the infotainment system, but overall this Honda is a front-runner in many ways.

2020 Kia Telluride 2:52
The Kia Telluride is our top pick for a midsize three-row SUV. Its upscale cabin is quiet, comfortable and thoughtfully designed. It comes packed with standard features and tech and even has adult-friendly third-row seating. For the money, there are few more appealing ways to move seven or eight people.

2019 Volvo XC60 4:20
The XC60 is a sharp-looking SUV with a modern, clean interior that gives it immediate luxury appeal. The ultra-refined interior is perhaps a step ahead of the ride quality. But in the final tally, the XC60 is one of the most compelling entrants in this segment.

2019 Lincoln Navigator 5:58
The Navigator is built to impress, from its incredible tow rating to its plush interior, expansive cargo space, and full suite of modern technology features. This is a very convincing luxury ride.

Best Family Truck

2019 Ram 1500 7:47
The Ram 1500's coil-spring rear suspension is a unique feature in the segment, giving this truck a smooth ride without compromising on hauling or towing capacity. Distinctive variants such as the Rebel and Night editions appeal to recreational users, but there's no shortage of capable work-oriented variants.

Best Family Cars

2019 Honda Accord 9:12
The Honda Accord should be at the top of your list if you're considering a midsize sedan. It's roomy, comfortable, safe, powerful and fuel-efficient. Honda's done a fantastic job with this Accord generation.

2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 11:35
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the most impressive and versatile luxury sedans on the road today. There's a wide range of features and engines to choose from, and every E-Class drives with impeccable poise and composure.

Best Family Minivan

2019 Honda Odyssey 13:00
With comfortable seating for adults or children in all three rows, tons of versatility, a car-like driving experience, and a list of available features the length of your arm, the Odyssey is an easy top pick.

I think you made a mistake with the CRV. People in this market are here for one reason. Price. Keeping that in mind, nothing comes close to the RAV4 hybrid. Any hybrid that can potentially pay for the upgrade in 3-4 years depending on your yearly milage is a must. Not telling what gas prices could be in the future so the RAV4 is a no brainer this year.

This list is good for leasing. Many are not reliable long term.

We had minivans for 22 years and would do it again. Way better than SUVs unless you go off road or tow.

Honda’s reliability has gone down in the past few years. I love the comfort and design of Crv, but thinking of buying RAV4, due to Toyota’s superior reliability. Is crv reliable enough ?

I was planning to buy the Mercedes Benz GLC300 until I saw the Consumer Reports review of it. Now, would not buy it with Carlos and Will's money.

One factor you do not speak about in any of your choices for all the categories is the MFG reliability. This is in many cases a major deciding factor for families looking for a family vehicle. You picked 3 Hondas in your review. Honda has been loosing ground in reliability over last several years. In the latest reliability for mfg rankings by consumer reports Honda is not even in the top 10. They came in 12th and before that 14th. The CRV had the oil distillation problem also that has been fixed in the latest 1.5 T engine. You picked the Volvo XC60 in the compact luxury category and Volvo is ranked 24th overall which is horrible. I understand the your are mainly looking at features I combination with performance based on value but, you really need to add reliability into the equation as it is an important factor also. The Lincoln is all new and I would buy any vehicle in the first year of an all new product especially an American brand. Lincoln ranked 15th in mfg reliability. I think you get my point.

Hmm, not really sure about this recommendation it looks more like a Honda commercial than a segment review.

Good video. From this list I would probably buy the Kia Telluride. If money were not considered, I might go for the Volvo XC60.

Was gonna buy a telluride because I need three rows of seats but Kia wants a 5-10k markup so I ordered a Tesla model Y 7 seater and it’s actually cheaper

The XC60 really looks like a wagon. I like wagons, but I don’t know what the the general public will think
