The 2 second gap between when burr says “I’m willing to wait for it” and when he says “I am the one thing in life I can control” with no music literally gives me shivers like ahhh I love this song

The thing about Hamilton and Burr that hurts is that what they learned from each other was their downfall. Hamilton took and took but he was going so fast and at the end of his life decided to finally slow down like Burr would, he decided to trust that Burr would wait like he always had before, but Burr learned not to hesitate from Hamilton, so he took his shot and paid for it.

This song is basically Burr saying there’s a lot of things impossible for him to control: love, death, life ... and Hamilton 🤣

Quote of my life. "I am the one thing in life I can control." Love this song.

Honestly, Leslie Odom Jr. is the Robin Williams of Hamilton. There's no replacing him. The amount of emotion he can put in his songs, especially when he screams "Wait!" in The World Was Wide Enough, is phenomenal. Lin Manuel made an excellent choice in casting him.

This song shows how Hamilton and Burr's differences make them more similar.
Hamilton "writes like he's running out of time" because he knows he's the only thing he has control over and he wants to be as successful as possible when death finally sneaks up on him. "He takes and he takes and he takes" because he knows you don't get anything in life without taking it.
Burr is "willing to wait for it" because he knows he's the only thing in life he can control and goddamn it if he won't die happy, he won't die at all. He's "lying in wait" because he's calculating risks and rewards and trying to "never let them know what he's against and what he's for".
They're both watching the clock but, for different reasons and that would make them either best friends or perfect rivals. Which I guess they were kinda both.

"Death doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes"

I'm not sure why but this just really gets to me. I guess maybe because it's true.

Love/hope/anger/death don't discriminate. That is life pure and simple in that line and this song.

They easily could've made Burr the villain but they didn't and that's why I love this musical. Burr is one of my favorite characters too. I relate to hamilton's ambition and burr's desire to please some vague "everybody" by not being open about what he himself believes. ("Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for.")

The sad thing is that Aaron Burr never wanted to be the bad guy. When Burr and Hamilton were in a duel, Burr had no idea that Hamilton was shooting up and not towards Burr, therefore Burr kind of accidentally shot Hamilton. Burr even says at Hamilton’s funeral how he hates how everyone is gonna see him as a villain. I mean... I don’t see Burr as a bad guy. He just made a mistake that’s all 🥺

“Death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints. It takes and it takes and it takes” really hits home when you see an innocent teenage girl die to illness, then turn around and see someone that’s truly evil continue living her life happily.

Death really doesn’t care who you are.

I think I've always acted like a burr, waiting for my moment to arrive and obviously disappointing me because it does not come. But I will start to be a bit more like hamilton creating that moment and not trowing away my shot

Dad died in 2015 and mom in 2019. When he says "If there's a reason I'm still alive when everyone who loves me has died" has my eyes welling up even as I type this. 😭

Not a fan of musicals. Not a fan of Hamilton. But this song lives rent free in my head. Powerful and emotional. Just makes you say “Damn…” every single time.

My wife showed me this song and I'm not one for musicals typically but when I lost my grandfather(he raised me) I felt this immense unforgivable weight I felt the legacy of kindness and strength he left behind echo through my bones. This song saved me from myself. Its etched into my mind forever. if you ever feel lost music will find you and bring you home.

2:38 there's just something about this part that is unreal. the way the music eventually gets louder and louder, and then suddenly get's quiet at the end is enough to move you to tears. it's like when you have finally achieved the biggest goal you ever had in your life. amazing. lin has absolutely out done himself with this song <3

Thanos doesn't descriminate between the sinners and the saints he takes and he takes and he takes
and if there's a reason Iron Man's alive when everyone around him has died... I'm willing to wait for it
Thanos doesn't hesitate he exhibits no restraint he takes and he takes and he takes
He keeps winning anyway, changes the game, plays and he raises the stakes
And if there's a reason our hero's thrive when so few survived then goddammit...I'm willing to wait for it
