I am really impressed with Liam and Ashley’s restraint. They really allow Robbie, Amy and even Matt to make the most of their limited time as a player. I struggle to keep from chiming in constantly as a player, so their control and active listening is really admirable to me.

For all the talk of Dorian and Dariax, Opal and Orym, and Fearne the Faun and Fy'ra Rai, I feel there wasn't enough noting that they had Aabria, Aimee, Anjali and Ashley sitting around the table... Over half their group with A-names.

One of the most underrated aspects of Critical Role is how emotionally invested Ashley Johnson is with the story and the characters.

Matt's face when Aabria announces she just unleashed a cone of cold on level 3 characters was very understandable.

Matt, the guy who created Aeor, is the one who is grossed out/scared of the now living ruin.

There's a lot of wonderful moments in this episode, but my favorite has to be when it clicks for the rest of the table what Dorian is trying to do with the residuum after the battle. Like, you can see the pride in Aabria as one of her players uses all the information she's given over the months to solve a problem in a way that's absolutely thinking outside of the box with the tools you're given, and Matt looks so deeply endeared by the choice too. I think this is some of the magic and life new players bring to the table. Older players who are more familiar with the traditional uses of residuum might never have thought of it, and Aabria might not even have meant for them to be able to make a rune themselves, but it's just such a good bow on the story, using the lore given, that you just have to reward it. One of my favorite DM decisions of hers too is, when Dorian rolled low on his attempt, to offer the group a chance to help him in whatever way makes sense to them. The ritual was such a unifying act and absolutely made the campaign and story for me. Bless this table and their openness and heart.
