All Fours was unbelievably difficult for me to review, I’m still unsure what I truly think of it, and it will probably intrigue me forever. I would be so excited to hear what you think of it if you ever read it. I guarantee that you will have strong opinions. When a reviewer has extreme negative opinions of a writer it often signals that something in the writing has immense power and might have challenged that reader in a way that they are not open to yet. At least, that is what I have found in my personal reading experience.

Martyr! is absolutely amazing! Definitely in my top three books of the year! You are missing out if you don’t read it—Kaveh is a wonderful writer. I was gutted it wasn’t longlisted for the Booker.

Thank you for sharing this list! I have not read any of them but just added a few to my future reading list. I always appreciate hearing your opinion.

I appreciate that you share these lists since I don’t have a NYT subscription and I like to hear your thoughts on the books.
I enjoyed Alexandra Fuller’s first memoir, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight. Her family was bizarre. I tried a more recent of her memoirs, Leaving Before the Rains Come, and lost interest before I got to the end.
I don’t know what Steve Donoghue said about Miranda July but I have nothing but praise for her short story collection No One Belongs Here More Than You. I also liked her novel The First Bad Man—very inventive. But the description of All Fours doesn’t appeal, so I don’t plan to read that one.

Alexandra Fuller wrote Don't Let's Go To The Dogs Tonight about growing up in Africa. Highly recommend if you like memoirs. I didn't know she had published something new so I might have to pick this up, although it sounds pretty depressing.

I think the only non-fiction author I've read on this list is Hampton Sides. I really liked his "Blood and Thunder." I feel like I am the last viewer on BookTube who has not read "James" but I will get to it. Thank you, Shelly.

Long Island compromise is really great! Very long but extremely fast paced. It’s very similar to Jonathan franzen’s books, in that it is all about very messy family dynamics. Not for everyone but really good if you like messy families and psychology.

A lot of books I haven't heard of, especially in non-fiction. I want to read Knife and of course, James. 😊💙

Hi, Alexandra Fuller is a really interesting writer. To explore her range, definitely try THE LEGEND OF COLTON BRYANT.

James and Martyr are excellent. Martyr should have been on the booker list and replaced Orbital or Wild Houses. It's exceptional. I've heard of a few of the others in Fiction but not that interested at the moment. Salman Rushdie, the book, is sitting beside me right now. A library book so I hope to get to it by the end of September. Happy Reading.

Miranda July is one of my favorite authors, All Fours is her strongest imo :)

Hmmm… I may investigate reviews of Beautyland… 🤔 Sounds interesting.

I started _Knife_ but set it aside rather quickly. Rushdie sounded a little flippant and the tone put me off. It’s his prerogative & I’m not saying I won’t go back. It was a library ehold and it just wasn’t the right time.

I still haven't checked out Steve Donahue but you talk about him so much it piqued my interest. And even more so since he hates Miranda July. I saw her movie The Future and absolutely hated it!

If you read Headshot be prepared for intense repetition... I liked parts of it. But that much repetition in a short book is a lesson in perseverance 😂

I despised All Fours. Some people love it but it was not for me. I highly doubt you’ll enjoy it either. I read it in its entirety so I could write a scathing one star review! 😂

Good Material is NOT Emily Henry style! It’s told mostly from the point of view of a slightly unlikeable guy who is certainly NOT emotionally mature! It’s funny and quirky and ok. I actually listened to this one and it was well done.
