Had a client who needed her tile whitened so she could sell the house. After trying everything, turns out bleach and a toothbrush did the trick.

Those grout cracks were there before you cleaned. They were just mostly hidden by the dirt and grime that settled in there.

I think your grout was worn away b4 the zep cleaner was used...

The best thing for cleaning grout is peroxide & baking soda. I buy the spray bottle hydrogen peroxide, sprinkle on baking soda, scrub with a grout brush or old toothbrush & it whitens up the grout beautifully.

For grout I use peroxide and baking soda. It takes away all the grime and makes its look like new. Shiney and white. In the shower to remove the water marks and clean the grout I use toothpaste and peroxide or for tough messes use baking soda and toothpaste. Make a paste and it will whiten anything quickly. Since I have stone walls in the shower it works wonderful. Toothpaste, peroxide and baking soda is so cheap and is great for a lot of stains, especially something white. Its softer then bleach and easy to make. Also won't ruin something non white. :) hope this helps for cheap easy way to clean.

The pink stuff works really well when it comes to hard water stains and oil grime from shower oils. I personally used a lot of cleaners and mixtures, and I was either dying from the mixture or scrubbing for hours . With pink stuff, my shower cleaning went from 2 hours to 30 minutes . However I will say I only use it for a small amount of areas, so one container of the paste lasts me a while.

I find this wild because the Pink Stuff was originally sold in the U.K. in the equivalent of our Dollar store for £2.
It then became poplar and people started reselling for a lot more.

Agreed! Zep plus scrubbing caused my grout to crumble on 8 month old floors! It’s just too harsh on a porous material.

If you're going to clean a grouted area with an acidic detergent you need to saturate the grout with water first, otherwise the product will remove the some of the grout along with the dirt.

The pink stuff is good.... For the £1 or £2 it's meant to be sold for, in the UK. The whole point was it's a cheap alternative, not as good as some of the expensive brands but does the job. I guess it would be the same if someone in the UK tried to import a US product that isn't super great, but works well for the cheap price point.

Worth noting that grout is a basic (alkaline) material, cleaning it with an acidic cleaner can degrade it over time. However, sometimes an acidic cleaner is necessary. If you’re cleaning a shower with hard water, saturate the grout with water first so the acidic cleaner isn’t seeping deep into the grout. Be sure to rinse well, and if possible seal your grout once it’s thoroughly dry. If you *always* use an acidic cleaner for grout you will lose grout over time and destroy any sealant and your grout will look dirty much hamster and be more difficult to clean. It’s the equivalent of scrubbing away a slick surface to expose one that holds even more dirt.

Also remember to be careful with mixing chemicals. Ammonia and bleach is toxic (even if you’re not mixing them, but if you’re using them in the same area the fumes will mix and be toxic).

There are a lot of great options so just find what works for you. An automatic brush can also help take out some of the elbow grease required. Oh and some professionals recommend Zep’s CLR formula as it’s a very similar compound to the grout brightener but it’s much less expensive for much more product.

I know that the world of cleaning can be overwhelming and it’s hard when there’s a bunch of conflicting info on the internet. Kudos to this creator for sharing her experiences even if they are against what everyone seems to be raving about. Cleaning isn’t one size fits all and even the best products aren’t perfect for everyone or every situation.

I tried using ZEP to clean my fiberglass tub and forgot about it until after it was dried. Needless to say, the finish on my tub is now diminished in the pattern the product was squirted on in. So much for that cleaning hack.

Wow 😯 $9 for a crappy cleaner! I’m with u on that, I absolutely HATE pink stuff items, they don’t work! AND here in the uk we’ve got all them items for £1 each in our pound shops, (dollar tree or whatever) I use a cleaner called elbow grease, u can get it in pink or yellow, AMAZING for cleaning, especially greasy sides, grease splashes from cookers, it’s great, I’m stunned u paid so much money for that cleaner, ❤😊❤😊

The Pink Stuff is cheap in Ireland. Can get it in euro shops and sometimes aldi. I use it on my oven coz it has no fumes. Needs a bit of elbow grease but that’s ok.

For white grout I’ve had success with the soft scrub with bleach. It scrubs the gunk off and cleans the grout 👍🏻 I’m shockingly impressed with Grove Co multi surface cleaner. I only buy that, scrub daddy paste, method toilet bowl cleaner, vinegar and isopropyl alcohol to clean.
