It is important to understand that the long nut on the shift shaft is not just a connector. It is an adjustment and if not adjusted correctly the gears can get stuck and the shift will not work. This happened to me. I have the DF model, which is newer, but very similar. When you release the 10mm lock nut remember exactly how much you turned it, say half a turn, then when you have backed out the long nut turn the lock nut back that half turn and keep it there. When you reassemble turn the long nut right up to the lock nut and tighten by turning the long nut. If this adjustment is wrong then the position of the shift shaft will not match the position of the gear shift properly and the gears will not engage correctly. This can cause the shifter to get stuck and then you can't get into FNR.

Thanks for this video. You've literately saved me a few hundred dollars. At the start of each season, I order the impeller, watch the video and have a beer while doing the project. So much easier than taking the motor in for "service" work.

Just a heads up be careful when loosening the nuts on the shift rod, mine were slightly seized and when loosened sheared the pin the to shift cam, luckily was able to get the cam out from lower unit. I Ended up a nail for a new pin, popped it in, and am good now

Warm day in Oklahoma and the parts kit arrived yesterday so I got to it this morning. All went as shown, I have a 2019 Suzuki DF-15 but same procedure. A little effort to get the lower unit off but when it slid out what a surprise. Mud Daubers in my lower unit housing 😳

Hey mate I got the same motor as you 9.9 Suzuki out board i am having problems with my one not peeing would the waterpump be the problem or further up water comes out where the exhaust is but not the proper wee hole

My DT15C water pump kit came with a new plate and gasket which I did not see you change in the video. If I use the plate and gasket would I need any RTV ?

Thank you, I ha e always owen Johnson/evinrude engines and some Yamaha's but never a Suzuki. I didn't know how to lower it completely because of the shift rod.
