I purchased the TCL 98” monster in Dec 24 from Costco which came with the 5 year warranty! It replaced an 82” Samsung that was only 2 years old. The build quality of the TCL is excellent! Picture quality is superb! The debate over size vs quality comes down to content enjoyment. Size definitely rules when watching NFL and college football‼️
The quality aspect depends on the source, satellite, OTA, streaming or Blu-ray, AND the tv itself. As a retired Broadcast Engineer, I have no complaints with this TCL tv whatsoever.
Screen size definitely plays a more important role than true black performance in my view. OLED is the undisputed king from a strictly picture standpoint, HOWEVER, when it comes to cost vs screen burn-in, OLED always comes in as a bad choice. My wife may pause a program for 30 minutes or more when she gets a phone call. That would destroy it within a week☹️

There's that saying in Fight Club..."the things you own end up owning you"
The one thing to consider with a massive 98" TV is that it becomes like a massive piece of equipment/furniture that you can't just easy move, get rid of, replace...etc. You can probably unload a 65" OLED on a used market but no one is buying that 98" TV in the future. You have to pay someone to take it.
So im not saying not to get that TV but realize it's not just about price or quality vs quality. Some guys have fun with installs but others may not like dealing with some of the things that come with the ownership of a TV that big. So just be cognizant before hitting the buy button that you will need to deal with moving this TV in the future and it's not like dealing with a smaller OLED.
This is still one of the reasons why I think projectors have a place in the future.

If we are talking mini LED and OLED only, I choose size over quality always. No point in paying for quality if you can't see it from afar.

I had to make this decision recently. A 75 U8k over a 65 C3. I chose the U8 and I’m totally happy with it and I wound up with a couple of hundred bucks left over. I will definitely go bigger over better next time as well

Determine the biggest size that your comfortable looking at where you sit, then get the best display in that size. If cost is an issue purchase the prior year model or finance the purchase.

Great video topic. You don’t see this much. At least I haven’t when I’ve been researching tvs to death for like 3 months. This is a great video for people with fixed budgets. I am hovering around $2k+ for my next tv and have been looking at the lg OLED 77” c3/c4 vs the 85” Samsung neo QLED. This video helps put it in perspective. Thank you.

What about the TCL 98QM751? I was going to get the TCL 85QM851, but the 98QM751 (2024 model) was on sale for under $3000 and went for that instead (I currently have a 2016 Vizio M series that is moving to another room).

I went 77” S90D over the 98” TCL. Love it, but can’t lie that I was conflicted about it and still wonder what that massive tv would look like in my living room.

Quality for sure though value factors in. I.e if LG has a TV almost as good as the competing Sony buy the price difference is justifiable then I would go with the Better value option

It just depends on how much I can afford at the time of purchase. If I can afford the best then I’ll get that. If I can’t then I’ll get the best bang for my budget

I was torn between 65” QM851g or 75” Hisense U7N… you basically answered my question! Thanks

Ive learned more than 10 years ago that picture quality is better than size. My brother bought a panasonic plasma full hd 42" and I bought a samsung 51" "hd". And when i bought i thought 9" is a lot, and it is. But after every time i watched my tv and his it was such a big difference that ive learned my lesson. Now i prefer a 55" oled tv than take huge led tv.

Interesting video and I do appreciate it. I wonder, though, how many homeowners have the wall for these big (gigantic) TVs.

Hi B, just about everything you're talking about in this video has been going thu my head when trying to decide what to get. I've had my bravia 9 85" for 4 days now, and wow, I love this thing it was a beast hanging it up. The only thing I can't stand is the turn-on screen. I'm Used to my 6 year old samsung. Because I was used to turning on the TV, and it opened up on my samsung free channel, playing in the background until I would put something on. Thanks for your great videos.

depends also if you want to be overwhelmed, er I mean "immersed" lol, or not... Myself, I prefer a simpler, underwhelming space.
