You know what... that pulling the couch a little closer instead of spending on a bigger TV advice really spoke to me. 65 inches it is

I never understood why people buy beautiful big TV's and then mount them close to ceiling height, haha. "Come on family, let's crane our necks upwards all night!"

People also have to take picture quality into account. Obviously, if you have an OLED at a bigger size, you’re going to be paying a chunk of change for it. I have a 65” OLED in my master bedroom, which is where my fiancée and I watch most movies as it’s dark. For the living room, I definitely would go 75” or up, which is what I’m planning to do with my next OLED. That, or a projector. Great video!!!

Around 2000 I bought a Sony XBR 32" tv for around $1600-1700. The reason it was so high was because it was an early HD set, capable of 1080i which was quite something back then. Now I'm going from a 50" plasma to an 85" LED from Sony. The 85" Sony btw cost me right at $2, 000, just a few hundred more than the tiny 32" in 2000 did.

I remember buying my first 55" TV and thinking "this is too big"...yea, I got used to it real quick

Actually just bought a 75-in TCL r646. Upgrading from the 65in 2015 model I've had for 6 years, and I thought I may have gone too big because I'm sitting 7-feet away but now that I hear the the recommended viewing distances, I'm fine.

TVs have no business being above a fireplace.

I usually go between 55-65" depending on the room. Anything bigger than 65" is too hard to move and gets very expensive. Personally, 65" high end, premium tv is more desirable than 85" mid range tv as well.

One other thing I think buyers must beware of is anything north of 75+ is going to appear humongous once in your home. In the wrong room and design space it can look out of place and obnoxious

It’ll also permanently require you to get assistance anytime you need to move it even a small distance

Great channel and video as always!

Brought a 55inch 4k tv sony xe930 in 2018 watching at approximately 8ft. Scaling on this tv is brilliant but sadly a large percentage of viewing material is in low quality with sprinkling of hdr etc. So the moral of the story is your viewing distance/tv size is only good as the weakest link. Larger the screen and the closer you sit the worse it's going to look on substandard material. Your tv is waiting for the rest of the technology revolution to catch up so it can give it's peak performance.

I went 55" for 8ish feet viewing distance but if I was doing it again a 77" screen would be probably what I'd go for.

I just went from a 43 inch to 75 inch TV in my bedroom and love it. I had it mounted on the wall. If I ever get my hands on the series x, planning to get a new Tv but won’t be that big.

My current one is 10 years old and it finally died. Only 33inches diagonal in size. Now I have a bigger home so excited to get a bigger one.

I have a Samsung 8K QN900B and and my viewing distance is eight from the screen and all I can say is wow . No eye strain, no headaches and I can look straight ahead and see the entire screen without my head moving side to side. All I can say is the experience is truly a treat for the eyes.

Remember when movies on VHS started letterboxing to give the viewer a more cinematic experience. Then TVs went to widescreens. Now TVs are flat and wide but streaming services like Amazon and Netflix to conserve bandwidth and better quality are letterboxing their streams. So that 75" flat screen becomes really a 65" when watching certain streaming content. That's the reason I'm now looking to upgrade my TV size, many streaming services letterboxing content. The TV is already a widescreen. STOP LETTERBOXING! We're paying full price. Give us a full picture.

I probably sit close to 6 feet from my entertainment centre and before I upgraded I had a 46” Tv and even that 6 feet away was little small when I upgraded to a 55” OLED still sitting 6 feet away it really is immersive so I can back these numbers

Most people's wallets are not going to want to hear this, but my experience has been the left side of those ranges is the right one. It's easy to experiment with the size of a screen if you have a projector and can change the zoom. Like Villaman, my family found a 100" screen at around 9 feet away was good for everything, including mixed viewing. Any smaller was not as immersive. Once the screen got over 120" at 9 feet away, it was too big for anything but video games that have the main character or car anchored to the middle of the screen.
