I'm a senior engineer with 8 years of experience. Just took 6 months off. About time to go back. I highly recommend people take long stretches of time off from time to time.

I really admire how introspective Mayuko is. She evaluates what she wants to do and does the work to make it happen 💯

I saw some other comments here saying that you inspired them to become software engineers, and I just came here to say the same! After studying and working within music/marketing, and being generally unhappy with my job, you inspired me to do an iOS Dev bootcamp two years ago. I've been working as an iOS Dev ever since, and I truly love it! I hope you know how big of a difference you've made for people, and how much you've positively impacted the trajectory of our lives. Especially as a female iOS Dev, I don't think I would've had the courage to jump into iOS Development, without having at least 1 role model (that I could relate to) to look up to. So, thank you so much Mayuko! Representation matters, role models matter, and *you* definitely matter. I'm forever grateful to you and your inspiring, relatable, and motivating videos.

This is a slap on the face of the so called "Hustle gurus" online who keep demonizing the 9-5 and the whole salary concept coz honestly there are many 9-5 folks who are really happy at what they do and with who they work. Good luck with your new career, Mayuko. Keep inspiring with more content (whenever you find time to create em)

it's so hard to force yourself to make videos which inherently requires creativity. happy you're finding joy in coding again and doing what's best for you!

I can definitely relate to the joy of coding after having a break! 🤩
I'd been working as an engineering manager for ~2 years, burnt out, took a 6 months break (my employer was very supportive), came back to the same job but as an individual contributor. During my break I had time to reflect on why I was so miserable in that role and I realised I just loved coding and solving problems hands-on! It's my 4th day back today and I couldn't be happier 😊

The most important thing is that you're happy with whatever you're doing. The book project sounds exciting, and is another form of creating (and giving back as well). So good to hear from you!

Your channel has been an inspiration for me, both in your presentation and visual style, as well as your way of communicating. I'm a big fan of your work - thanks for all the time and effort you put into creating and sharing. And congrats on your job!

All good. Tech YouTubers come and go. It was a good run while it lasted! 🎉

So so insightful. Yea, I feel like the perfect mix is both running your own business AND being a part of a greater team like you said. Excited to watch this new chapter for you!

it depends on the person, but one thing i learned about myself is i can't mix my passion with my vocation. i did wedding photography for a year and half, and that drained the fun out of it so quickly. anyway, best of luck in your new role and we're all super happy to hear how much joy and fulfilment you're getting from it. we'll see you around!

You inspired me to become a SDE and I finally got a job at an SDE at Amazon 2 months ago. Thank you so much!

Congratulations Mayuko! Your time is yours to assert and enjoy as you may. Not a darn thing wrong with taking a break from a production if that is what your system needs or requires. Rather appears that Kono enjoys your company and his warm blanket too. Hope you, Scott, and your families and pets all have a Wonderfully Happy and Enjoyable Christmas Eve Week! -Bob...

On healthier boundaries with social media - 4 months ago I deleted it all except YouTube and LinkedIn (and I can't wait to land a job and get off LinkedIn for a while too) NO REGRETS! my mind is so much clearer and I've been so much happier. I think getting together with friends often IRL has been key and I hope we keep going strong through the new england winter

Hey, it's so great to see that you're just going with what feels right to you right now without overanalyzing it too much or making hard and fast 5 year plans. Embracing uncertainty is such an important skill. Ironically, the decision to step away from content creation for a bit is in itself good "content". Because it shows us that life is not static, priorities change, and we can always re-invent ourselves if we want to! Best wishes to you.

Mayuko, I'd love to know about how you got yourself back into the groove of software development after a hiatus like this.

Glad to hear you found a better balance for yourself, I totally feel the pressure for constant content creation so I’m really happy you managed to break from it in a healthy way. Will look forward to more videos whenever they’re ready ☺️
