Anbernic RG552 - PSP 30 Game Test Showcase - (NEW video see PINNED comment) + Giveaway

In this video, I'm testing 30 PSP Games to see how they run on the Anbernic RG552 using the PPSSPP emulator on Android. Does the Anbernic RG552 run PSP games well? Let's find out!

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3 Jan 2022: A couple of days ago, I posted the PSP 25 game analysis, however I made a mistake with the testing, so I took that video down. I made a silly error in PPSSPP graphics settings where for the 'no frameskip' option, I only ticked 'auto frameskip' off, but that still meant manual frameskip was still set to 1, and that also needed to be set off as well. Hence the data for 'no frameskip' was wrong, and that meant some games that normally run at 30VPS ran at 15VPS. After redoing the tests, when using 'no frameskip' the games run at 30VPS which is how they should run.

So I want to apologise to the 1,800 people who watched the previous video, I hope you rewatch this to see the true results and I want to thank everyone for being patient and I did not see a single harsh or rude comment which goes to show the retro community are some of the most awesome people around.

I ended up redoing 90% of the video again except for the B-Roll and it includes testing 6 new games (I took out Tomb Raider Legend because it was a pain to test).

TL;DW If you don't want to watch it all, let me give you conclusion of the video - the RG552 plays many PSP games fine. Particularly games that were already at 30VPS. It can play some 60VPS games too, though there are some that it struggles with like God of War, Outrun, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, Ridge Racer.

If you Skip Buffer Effects and turn Frameskip off, Ridge Racer 1 & 2 and Outrun run pretty much locked at 60fps and Burnouts Legend + Dominator and run at 30fps. All at 2x PSP resolution. They look and play great!

Excellent video and explanation!!! I found a lot about Anbernic in Portuguese PT-BR, but no analysis as well done as this one, related to the PSP on the Anbernic RG552! Do you think Emulator updates could improve performance in the future?

Where can I find or download/buy this games wich emulator do I have to download? Or do they come standard with the handheld? (I ordered one with a 256GB. - 40.000 games - card.

In China, this only costs about 1000RMB (with only the 16G Linux system card), which is about 157USD. Not sure if that may make this device a more reasonable choice.

You should say what backend was used...for instance, hot shot's swing meter isn't smooth in open gl but is in vulkan, despite both having similar fps

RE: OUTRUN 2006. Disable Buffered Rendering and disable frame skip and the game is more than quite playable at 2X. sometimes youll get a completely missing texture in the background but otherwise for the most part the game stays at 60fps. There are dips in the inbetween bits while the game loads in the next track but thats true of the PSP original anyways.

If your having difficulty running a game, it might be worth trying it without buffered rendering, some games are totally unplayable without it but some might only sacrifice some visual effects, its up to you whether the FPS boost is worth it but id say for Outrun atleast it 100% is worth doing.

I just checked Amazon US and these sell for $260. That's a hard sell if the Steam Deck sells for $399. I know it's not that close in price but $260 just seems high for what the RG552 can do.

When i try to set vulkan through android, it sais that ppspp needs permissions, so i can only run it on OPENGL, how did you managed to do it?
