This can be simplified to x+y when you take the two rows y and x together.. this means [x +x'.y = x+y]. Hint: one cannot cancel x's together because it affects the result (it's an and gate not a plus sign) namely when x = 1, perhaps y = 1 and x'y = o but the whole expression still equivalent.

Why is the "plus" sign used to mean "or?" That's like using the word "yes" to mean "no." Really? "They" couldn't find or create another symbol? Why create this confusion?

Well done series. Minor correction for this one (using C notation for ease of writing in comments): x && !x == 0 and x || !x == 1 are the complementary laws, not DeMorgan's. DeMorgan's is: !x && !y = !(x || y). More information available on wikipedia's article entitled Boolean_algebra.

At 11:33 the 3-chip solution offers the same truth table as a single OR gate. Is there any benefit to using a system like this (ie. toggling extra inputs)?

I dont know if i'm right but in the minute 7 35 of the video where u are showing how to simplify with k maps, (showing the circule and the pointed circule), is incorrect, the answer is changed. (English is not my native language). and btw you should add some comments about what Harley Pebley said so the ones that are taking the course does not get the incorrect information. for you attention Thank you.

The truth table for and at the beginning of the video was wrong.

1 0 1 <- should be 0
1 1 0 <- should be 1

What was there was inverted on the last two. I had to scratch my head because there's no digital logic gate where the last two would be true unless the first two were wrong. Sure you could build a circuit with that logic but that's out of scope for the lesson. I'm just a Nerd who plays with digital logic for fun but for someone new that would confuse them and the rest of this lesson wouldn't make sense. Especially when writing bcd to binary counter circuit with the 7 segment display. I'm just trying to help, I like all the other videos. That's a pretty threadbare kit if I do say so. The person making the lessons even loses a resistor and has to substitute a 100 ohm with a 330 later in the series. I know the series is old but the kit doesn't have nearly enough spares. Those tact switches break all the time from pitting them in the breadboard and it's bad practice to not put an electrolytic cap across ground and Voit on the 7805, especially when using a battery or anytime for that matter. Logic ics are sensitive to voltage spikes, especially the hc series. The cd4xxx are a little more forgiving. Anyway I'm not trying to troll, I enjoy the videos.

I don't get it, you go too fast! i don't get it anymore. I'm afraid i have to find someone else to watch and learn.
I'm not english so, understanding english is a lot harder to me than for you guys. i can not understand fast talking, i just have to assimilate all of the words and translate it into a logic sentence, and if it goes to fast, i can not assimilate the fast sentences anymore, so the words that he is saying are making no sense to me anymore. (I hope you can understand my perfect english :)         <--- And yes, i used one bracket, did you notice?

It's a gud thing that i have experience in k-maps... It's a nice video but, he doesn't explain how to map the k-map the right way ..
