If I told you that you could add 100 Gigabit connectivity in your #homelab for less than $900, you’d probably think I was crazy. I wouldn't have believed it myself until #mikrotik reached out to tell me just that! This video is all about the CRS510--8XS-2XQ-IN network switch, a switch Mikrotik calls their Swiss Army Knife of network switches!

While the disclaimer states that the switch was sent at not charge, the author did not say if he had to return it or just post an infomercial and then keep it? I think that a video with lab results after the specs would have been much more interesting, other than just reading the specs.

I have the 8 port 100g version and I just use breakout cables to change the port type to whatever I want.

The timing of these videos! The 2 node video dropped just before I built the previous nas, This dropped just after I got 2 * 25gb nice.

The Winbox app is a good addition. RouterOS is convoluted, SwitchOS a little less. I prefer Unifi for my home lab, but if you only need two 100Gb ports, you can't beat the price of this switch.

i think supporting breakout cables for 4x25 is a killer feature here

And to be frank 100G switches often are used with BGP or at least OSPF to route within a leaf spine architecture. So the Winbox configuration interface is perfect. Ubiquity gear just doesn't cut it

This will be perfect for handling the throughput from my 4 x SATA 5400 rpm HDD, RAIDZ1 pool running on a Celeron J4125

These posts are always interesting. In my opinion, most homelabbers don't even have the storage or workloads to push 10Gb, let alone a 100Gb switch. To truly utilize 100Gb, you'd pretty much need to be working in a multi-tenant environment running hyperconverged solutions.

I was getting PNW vibes before you even mentioned you had Ziply lmao

Don't swap out for "quieter fans" because quieter means less airflow. It's bad to give such a general advise. The engineers chose these fans for a reason, namely airflow.
