Imagine the government as the "police department" of the ECONOMIC sphere of our society. Remove that oversight (which is what Neo-Liberalism did) and all the shysters, pickpockets, thieves and self-serving liars are able to operate with absolute impunity. Welcome to present-day America the Beautiful!

We as a society struggle for balance but the greed of some seems to always be the factor that leads to our down fall

The best book on the rise of Thatcher-Raygun Neo-liberalism is David Harvey's 2005:
A Brief History of Neoliberalism.
It is easy to forget that the policies of deregulation & austerity, cutting government spending on social programs began under Carter in 1977-78.
Accompanied, of course, by increases in military spending.

That pre-neoliberalism was called "laissez faire".

I learned the definition of inflation around the time of Ronald Reagan. Now, I noticed the republicans of today aren't saying anything about inflation.

I always (well, since early 2000s, anyway) thought 'neofeudalism' was a more accurate term for what's going in the U.S. (where I've been stuck throughout.)

As the saying goes ' What's in a Name anyway ' . Call Theft & Corruption by any other Name ( Socialism, Democracy, Liberalism ) would Stink just as Bad so long as Politicians, Government & Corporations are EXIST.

It was not called neoliberalism in the 20's- if I am correct it was "Lassie fair economics" (pardon my spelling

there is nothing new about greed, and institutionalizing it doesn't make it better. but does make it stronger.
being a citizen of a democracy has responsibilities, and benefits. the responsibilities arise from participation in the management of the nation, the benefits are necessary, to insure that the nation's managers all have reason to believe in the prosperity of the nation, and its people.
but usa is not a democracy, the people do not rule, so they must scrabble for survival as their masters allow. you would think they would get tired of it.
but, so long as 50% are ok, revolution is unlikely to succeed.
are 50% ok, and which direction is the trend line?
no matter, nothing will be done until the situation is much worse. then some general will seize power and throw coins to the poor.
roll on, military salvation!
btw, economists can tell you why, but they can't tell you how.

It’s “liberal” in the cancerous, opposed to land value taxation, Ludwig von Mises-type way.

Neo-liberalism is a superslick kind of deviousness. I'd choose fascism over neo-liberalism any time.
With fascism you l least know what you can expect: if you adhere to its leader you'll be fine.
With neo-liberalism you don't know what to expect: If you adhere to it's party, it may betray you at any convenience.
