Ferrules improve the reliability of electrical connections when connecting fine stranded conductors to electrical terminals.

In this short video, we connect 16.00mm2 Tri-rated cable to a cage clamp style terminal. We fit an insulated ferrule and crimp it with a square profile. The crimp tool is a swivel head Knipex Twistor 16 ferrule crimp tool.

You British do nice electrical work, but so much different from here in the US. I have just begun using Wagos on my jobs and I like them very much. Thank you my British cousins.

Ferrules just make life easier. I even use them on domestic flex applications.

Beautiful! I love it when people take pride in their work! It makes an enormous difference in the end product! If you are a perfectionist like me, it's easy to tell if you take pride in your work or not!

Here in Germany we use them since 1979, the ferrules are an invention of the 1960s. The common method before was soldering the strands. But that caused massive issues, so this procedure was banned in 1979.
But on some terminals or connectors it's better to use no ferrules. For example screwless terminals from Phoenix Contact. I remember the specs of one of their screwless terminals, they stated that the terminal is rated for 4mm² conductors, no matter if solid, stranded or fine-stranded. Except you fit a ferrule on the fine-stranded, then you can only insert 2.5mm². Also for connectors like the Wago 221 or 222 they're not required.

I mean without ferrule and torque screwdriver wire terminal will damaged and also circuit breaker case damaged so important to use ferrule for electrician job

If you want these in the United States, McMaster-Carr has them. They are under, “Insulated Wire Ferrules.” Also they have the End Crimpers, like they have. The Crimpers are a bit pricey. They also have “Insulated Pin Terminals.” You can use standard Solder-less Terminal Crimpers on them.

These bootlace ferrules have been used by me for donkey years I can't see today's sparkys using these on domestic installations. These days most sparkys use wago connectors which I personally won't use I'm more old skool bootlace on cable and a screw down terminal will always get my vote

Big fan of these as an industrial electrician.

I love my knipiex tool all and wera screwdrivers. Here in the U.S. contractors don’t want to buy ferrules and wagos. Such a cleaner install in my opinion

love a ferrule on panel work, esp marine where i use a lot of really fine stranded cable, makes the job looks the dogs danglies .. just sick and tired of seeing a few youtube sparks jumping on the band wagon and using them on solid core, or people trimming the ends flush .. when you should leave a mil or 2 ... so called professionals dont RTFM

Strange it has taken so long for this process to enter the mainstream, it is standard practice onboard ships.

They were used in power stations control wiring on plants built in the 1950s Ferrules were probably about since electric controls came into existence. The ends are numbered for wire identification.
