I finally got to watch this talked-about acceptance speech of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz at the Democratic National Convention inside the United Center in Chicago, IL.

Walz made things official, becoming the candidate of the Democrat Party for Vice President of the United States.

He was a public school teacher, and he used to lead a football team to a championship. That last one was an astounding accomplishment included in his illustrious resumé!

I used social security survivors benefits to help pay for college. Probably about the same time as Walz. I think young people today might get the wrong idea about what's available to them. Fixing the problem might be what Walz is angling for at some point.

It used to be that you could keep collecting the benefits after age 18 as long as you stayed in college. President Reagan ended that program. I was grandfathered in, But my younger siblings were not able to continue getting survivors benefits even if they went to college.

In my case, the taxes that I paid in subsequent years were far and above any of the SS benefits I received.
