How to use SUBTOTAL Function in Excel

In this video, I’ll show you how to use SUBTOTAL function in Excel.

The SUBTOTAL function in Excel calculates the subtotal from a range or array. The Excel SUBTOTAL function is designed for columns of data (vertical ranges) and not for rows of data (horizontal ranges).

The SUBTOTAL formula in Excel, is part of Math & Trig formulas in Microsoft Excel.

SYNTAX of SUBTOTAL Function:
=SUBTOTAL(function_num,ref1,[ref2],...)

FUNCTION_NUM:

To INCLUDE HIDDEN VALUES, the function number 1 to 11 can be used as shown below:

1 - Average
2 - Count
3 - Counta
4 - Max
5 - Min
6 - Product
7 - Stdev
8 - Stdevp
9 - Sum
10 - Var
11 - Varp

To EXCLUDE HIDDEN VALUES, the function number 101 to 111 can be used as shown below:

101 - Average
102 - Count
103 - Counta
104 - Max
105 - Min
106 - Product
107 - Stdev
108 - Stdevp
109 - Sum
110 - Var
111 - Varp
