Statutory changes to Relationships and Health Education are vital to support the social and emotional development of children and young people. Since September 2020, Relationships Education and Health Education became compulsory in England.
Schools must enhance their PSHE Provision to include all the new Statutory Changes and the changes must be implemented by 2020, But the schools are encouraged to introduce changes by September 2019.
Relationship Education now must focus on the following areas:
- Being Safe
- Caring Friendships
- Families and people who care for me
- Respectful relationships
- Online relationships
Health Education now must focus on the following areas:
- Basic first aid
- Health and prevention
- Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- Changing adolescent body
- Healthy eating
- Mental wellbeing
- Internet safety and harms
- Physical health and fitness
