Oath backed promises

My Bible is full of verses coloured yellow. They are God’s golden promises.

Father God is extremely serious about His promises, starting with those He made to the early giants of faith like Abraham.

He promised to bless Abraham and through him all the families of the earth. (Gen. 12:1-3)
After Sarah eventually bore her promised son Isaac at a very old age, when Isaac was a teenager God tested Abraham, instructing him:

“Take your son, your only son Isaac and go to Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you”, Gen. 22:2 AMPC.
Reading through to verse 9, Abraham made an altar, put the wood on it and bound Isaac as a sacrifice. He had the knife in his hand to offer his son when God sent the Angel of the Lord to stop him.

The Angel said: “Do not lay a hand on the boy: for now I know that you fear and revere God in that you have not held back from Me your only son”, Gen 22:12.
After Abraham had untied Isaac, “the Angel called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said I have sworn by Myself, says the Lord since you have done this I will bless you and in your Seed (Christ) shall all nations be blessed because you obeyed My voice”, Gen 22:16,17 AMPC. (See also Galatians 3:16. )

Since Abraham was willing to offer his only son, God added an oath to His promise of blessing.
How does all this affect you and I as believers today?

Because of the new Birth, the Holy Spirit baptized us into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13). That’s why in the Epistles of Paul we find the expression ‘In Christ’ so regularly.

The promise of blessing backed up by God’s Oath was made to Abraham’s Offspring who was Christ . He came 42 generations later (see Genealogy of Christ Mat. 1:1-17).

The Oath backed promise of blessing passed down the bloodline from Abraham to Christ, and to us because:
“ If you belong to Christ and are in Him Who is Abraham’s Seed, then you are Abraham’s offspring and spiritual heirs according to the original promise”, Gal. 3:29 AMPC.

This is why Paul & Barnabas wrote in Hebrews:

“To show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who would inherit the promise, the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened with an oath. This was so that by two unchangeable things (His promise and His oath) in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false or deceive us, we may have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope appointed to us”, Heb 6:17,18 AMPC.

So, when facing any giant in our lives, whether it be sickness or financial need, let us be like King David. He wrote:

“Cast your burden on the Lord (releasing the weight of it) and He will sustain you. He will never allow the consistently righteous to slip or fall”, Ps. 55:22 AMPC.

King David maintained his hope in God all his life, & the anchor held firm. The Apostle Peter quoted his words, 1 Peter 5:7.

As Abraham’s heirs, we also can put our hope confidently in God’s promises because every one of them are Yes & Amen for those He has established and anointed in Christ”, (2 Cor. 1:20;21).

Let’s keep our hope strong by following this advice from the apostle John:

“For we receive from God whatever we ask, because we watchfully obey His orders (observe His suggestions & injunctions, following His plan for us and habitually practice what is pleasing to Him”, 1 John 3:22 AMPC.

From such strong hope we can now develop the essential connection we need to receive from God.

That of course is ‘pistis’ Strong’s 4102
