Hello today im showing you how to dicern if your silver coin is fake or not.

There are different kinds of magnetism. The one we know komonly is feromagnetism. It occurs in iron and nickel and is easy to observe as it acts very strong upon magnets. There are however 2 more types of magnetism that make it easy for us to see if a coin is silver or not. these are Diamagnetism and Paramagnetism. these can only be observed under very strong magnetic fields.

what we have in this video is a setup showing how to test for this.

1. Take a bowl and fill it with water.
2. Make a float. Ideally one that youst barely floats the object (it took me 20 minutes to balance the coin)
3. Take a neodymium magnet. The bigger the beter

Paramagnetic is weakly atracted to magnets and Diamagnetic is weakly pushed away from magnets.

Iron - Feromagnetic
Nickel - Feromagnetic
Silver - Diamagnetic
Lead - Diamagnetism
copper - Diamagnetic

If your coin is supposed to be 999 silver it won't be atracted to a magnet and might even be pushed away if you are using a really really strong magnet.

the coin in question is Cupronickel and is atracted to the magnet. it is therfore not Silver.

There is a very slim chance that a fake is made of a Lead alloy in which casse it coul pass the test i hoever have only heared of such fakes and never seen one. Another possibility would be a coated copper coin. that hoever should be easy to dicern from weight and measurment. In any casse scamers dont use such complicated methods as long as 99.9% can't discern a cupronickel coin from a silver one.

You should also be aware of the surface tension. The float might move because the surface is not flat to it! So test it in many different directions.
