Water Heater Leaking: What To Do

preview_player
Показать описание
What to do when you find water under your gas fired water heater. Showing where to look to determine where the water is coming from and if the leak is repairable or the water heater requires a replacement.

Water Heater Playlist

Repairable Leaks:
• Fittings
• Tank nipples
• T&P relief valve
• Control valve
• Drain valve

Unrepairable Leaks
• Top/Bottom seam
• Spraying in flue
• Spraying in combustion chamber

Please note that a water heater that is overworked or runs completely cold can condensate, giving the appearance of a leaking tank. This may also occur when a new water heater is installed and fired up for the first time. Dry up the area and wait 24hrs to determine if it was condensate or the tank actually leaking.

Thank you so much for this very easy check to do yourself, rather than assume the tank needs replacing, which many companies will suggest… very helpful & empowering! Thanks! Diana

Great advice, based on the video, leak is from bottom seam into the drip now I need a new tank. At least I know that the plumber is not forcing me into a new tank. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick and informative video. Now I get to try and replace our water heater 3 days before Christmas, during the COVID fun of 2020.

perfect video question where did the 658 gallons of water go? My water bill shows that much was consumed not the day of my leak....I have a crawl space, did the water go down there or is it trapped under my floor? Thanks!

Darn it. It’s past midnight and I just discovered water around the water heater. The bottom seam is wet and all else is dry. So this means mine needs a replacement.

Very helpful. Mine is the drain valve, front little spout thing. How do I “snug it up” or re check the thread?
