The Math for those who are intereseted:
t = height of the tree
m = how far the man was up the tree

00:18-00:24: Lee's Claim 1 (say L1): m = (2/3) t
00:26-00:32: Lee's Claim 2 (say L2): t = m + (1/3) m

Just looking at these 2 equations, one may not spot anything unusual. But David cleverly spots the contradiction.
00:33-00:36: David uses L2 to infer m = (3/4) t. (Say D1)
If we solve from m using L2
t = m + (1/3) m
t = (4/3) m
m = (3/4) t
That is exactly D1. D1 and L1 contradict each other. But D1 was inferred from L2. Therefore, L1 and L2 are contradictory claims.

00:40-00:45 David uses L1 to infer t = m + (1/2)m (Say D2)
If we solve for m using L1
m = (2/3) t
t = (3/2) m
t = 1 + (1/2) m
That is exactly D2. D2 and L2 contradict each other. But D2 was inferred from L1. Again, proving L1 and L2 are contradictory claims.


Some considerations:
1. If t=0, this entire argument is irrelevant. It is safe to assume t > 0.
2. The man's height is not taken into account for this calculation. How high the man is up the tree can mean how high the top of his head was or the feet. Generally, we can choose an arbitrary point in the middle of his body.

Can somebody please explain the tree height thing? Surely Lee was right that if the guy was two thirds of the way up, then the tree was that height plus another third? How could it be two thirds plus a HALF like David said??? 0:32
