This represents one of the longest periods of time between an original film and its sequel. It took a total of 36 years for this film to come out after the first entry. Granted, it could’ve been a year or two quicker had COVID-19 not happened, but only a handful of films have done a break close to this long. Tron and Tron: Legacy took about 28 years to make the sequel, and The Odd Couple and the sequel took about thirty years for the sequel to come out.

The best thing is that this movie is not just a nostalgia trip but a whole different movie it can easily stand out after 30 yrs just like the original did.

35 yrs now....I was in early 20s when TG1 was released. I still remember every bit of the movie, the theatre, my friends and though, at that time, I could hardly follow English, I loved the movie. Few movies are etched for ever in my soul, TG in one (Gladiator is the other). So much a changed in the world and in my life....yet TG1 brings up so many wonderful memories. Life was easy, simple and less chaotic then.

Tony Scott was supposed to direct the sequel, but his ultimely death(suicide) got the movie even more delayed. Had Tony Scott not left us, we'd have gotten the sequel maybe in 2015/16.
