In two/three years of development, this young girl has matured into a very interesting and quite eloquent speaker! Proper young woman now! Nice! Cheers

I was the takeaway man on a woodmiser when the blade broke, shrapnel flying, luckily I didn’t get hit.

Great idea with a small enclosure around the controls .
Get grandpa busy, he would enjoy the project 😊

Install a camera by the other end of the log to set the cut depth.

For a little more, an open Pole barn with wind break would get things rolling real fast. No snow, dry work area, maybe a mirror to high light Jade with mic and speakers to communicate. Best of all, an enclosure wall to protect Em from the barker. All lit up and protected. Girls would be happy

Just orientate the end of the log you want to gauge the cut on, towards the mill operator. Then run the mill head down to the operator end and set the back of the blade at the height you want to enter the log. Then run the head back to the other end and enter the log cutting at that height. The person swamping should ideally wear a high-viz vest so the operator can better see them. A large round convex traffic mirror mounted in an appropriate location and angled appropriately will allow the operator to see the whole swamping work area. The operator definitely needs to be wearing a full face shield if running the de-barker.

Glad to hear there is a plan in place to get you some protection from the flying debris. I wouldn't want to imagine how bad getting hit in the eye with a small stone or sharp piece of bark would be. Take care Breon family. Wish you all the best.

OK, I must say this. Since you first set up that mill I"ve said you're in the wrong place. Lots of experience with mills and logging, I would move your controls to the side of the mill so you are positioned in the corner with the live deck on your right and Jade on your left. Put the controls to the left of the end of the log so you're facing the mill outfeed table and about in the middle of the outfeed table. This will allow you to have everything visible around you. You control everything!! You're the sawyer!! A small shack with windows right, left, and front allow you to see everything and protect the saw.

This is how regular sawmills are arranged and it really works well as this has been the arrangement for well over 100 years. Please try this as you will be very pleased. This will cure most of your operational issues. Pete.

Remember, what you are doing is setting an example for others. You are on a learning curve and doing quite well. Experience is usually the best teacher . We enjoy watching, learning and having fun with you . Hopefully, Woodmizer will use you and Jade in their promo about their equipment. Stay safe, happy and healthy.

You can get noise cancelling ear defenders with built in mics 🎤. Wouldn't even have to shout.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned yet… one thing that worked well at mills I have worked at is cameras and monitor screens to let the sawyer know when their partner is in a scary or unsafe area/status/or situation. Love the content and fully support family business! Keep it up y’all!

A walkie talkie set with head set would work. The enclosure for you is a good idea. Make sure you get heat and ac with it. Lol

As to communicating with Jade: set up a two sided sign that swivels in your line of sight. Round, Green for ''go ahead and cut.'' Red Octagon for ''Stop and wait until I am finished over here.'' A heavy duty vinyl cover with brass eyelets can be made to cover the control head when not in use. Use bungee cords to hold it down. We had equipment in the Air Force with dark blue covers that worked in the rain, snow and sun. You could in effect build a pole barn framework over the saw, I might know where you could get some wood and top it off with cedar (or other wood), shakes, for the roof. It would look classy and cool! Marc in Newark... TX.

I saw the dual control location on some other video, almost suggested the relocation for you. A guide added to the finish table would prevent misdirection headed your way. Both you guys need a shed for protection, especially with fair skin.
