I can't insert the brake cable through the body of the lever base. I never had this trouble with Shimano.

About the brake cables, are brake cables and shifting cables ONE? or they are separate for braking and shifting?

Is this a new change, or is this installation possible on other, earlier versions of the gear levers?

Is it alright to use a different brake levelr on the stock brakes that come with the bike? Like for example, replacing mtb style brake levers for drop bar brake levers but not replacing the brakes itself (the one that does the actual stopping)
