Road Trip #304 - City Drive - San Antonio, Texas - Realtime

A realtime drive through San Antonio, mostly down Broadway to the historic Alamo, and then to some suburbs, eventually reaching I-10. During this drive, we pass through the City of Alamo Heights, which is entirely surrounded by the City of San Antonio.

Before 14:10, as the left turn is made on to Alamo Plaza (required left turn only), you can see the Alamo. Before the left turn, you can see some of the history of buildings being built right up to the Alamo decades after the battle.

Loop 368 is the old US 81 and was signed Business 81 until US 81 was decommissioned south of Fort Worth. Mainline 81 followed I-35.

21:50 - Should be close to the Alamodome as the video approaches I-37/US 281.

Around 10:40, the video goes under the I-35/I-37/US 281 interchange. I-37 south was left out of the video and begins its southbound journey to Corpus Christi. Also, the mentioning of Loop 368 turning left may be an indicator of traffic having to work around when I-35/I-37/US 281 interchange was being built as Broadway St. goes under the interchange.

I was living there very long time ago, 40 years to be exact, now everything looks different , I remember the tower of americas, in 1968 my wife and I went up there, , 41 years ago I was working at VILLA ROSA , ,, ANEX SANTA ROSA MEDICAL CENTER, beautiful memories, the river walk at that time, I wish can go again before I die .

Kinda odd to see normal traffic lights in Texas instead of seeing them installed horizontally.

Nice video.

You may want to look at www.texashighwayman.com to look at San Antonio's highway history:

Much of this video follows along an old alignment of US 81.

looks really peaceful and nice...idk why people hate on San Antonio so much, I think it's just mainly people from other Texas cities aka Austin, Houston and Dallas.

In downtown I remember very well that the streets were just one way, , like commerce St. , Houston St., I remember there was a spanish radio station KCOR, , and for country music KKYX I don't know if they still there, , there at St. Mary's was the GREYHOUND BUS STATION, , still there ?? I don't think so, ,, even town has change a lot, every so different, , I was living there from 1966 to 1978 then came back to Mexico bcz. my wife, she was born in bexar county ( LOSOYA ) but she wants to live in Mexico, even my kids born there in San Antonio, , my wife died here in Mexico, 2 of my kids went back to San Antonio, and they forgot about US, me and youngest daughter, , ufff its ok, life is like that sometimes how I remember you beautiful San Antonio Tx. I wish can go for the last time, but I don't think so !!! .

Nice video but it doesn't show the center of downtown and bypasses the denser parts of downtown San Antonio. No Commerce, Market, or Houston streets which are the major streets of downtown San Antonio that have a lot of pedestrian traffic. The bustling Riveralk one level below street level meanders for miles throughout the downtown area and continues reaching many historic neighborhoods. A lot of residential units are under construction and not shown in this video. There are many cranes that have gone up all over the downtown area since this video was recorded. This video shows the older parts of San Antonio and not the new sections of this metro which is upward of 2.7 million people. Nonetheless, I enjoyed watching this video.
