Yamaha FZ-07 (MT-07): Close(ish) Call on 101

Homebound commute on SB 101. Going with the flow in left side of lane 1 when white pickup starts merging into the lane.
I decided to accelerate out of the situation (but failed to wheelie for safety). No further issue.
All's well that ends well. But it got me thinking: Did I set myself up to be in that situation? Should I have done something different?
