Another thing i found out: on cheaper Floyd Rose bridges, if you use the bar and it goes out of tune, don't retune. You wanna change the tension of the springs to bring it back into tune. So if it falls flat, tighten the springs, and if it's sharp, loosen them

I've had two guitars with floating tremolos when I was a teenager, and sold both of them out of frustration (both of which i regret, one was a 7 string). I couldn't find any videos talking about screwing the bolts on the inside, and no guitar store would tell me what I was doing wrong. It wasn't until about a month ago when the lead guitarist in my band explained it to me when I was bitching about how I couldn't get it down that I found this out. I'm glad you're talking about this, and I hope it prevents others from making my mistakes

I always hear people complain that it takes so long to set up a Floyd, but once you know how to do it, it's no problem.

I can restring my Floyd with a different string gauge and have a perfect setup in 5 minutes. Super low action, no fret buzz and stays perfectly in tune, even with a ton of abuse. Love Floyd Rose

Loosen strings. Block the bridge at perfect bridge angle. Tune. Remove block. Loosen claw screws until back in tune. Done.

A tip that I recently discovered is to block the trem as you tune up. That will save you so much time when setting up a Floyd Rose equipped guitar.

You'll want to detune all of the strings a half step. Then, crank the claw screws a few turns while holding in playing position and check the tuning. Basically, get it back in tune. Check your bridge angle to confirm it is good. If its not, continue tue process. Just be careful, as the example shown would break strings if you just cranked the claw screws down until the bridge was level without detuning the strings.

For an extreme case, perhaps try a full step, then crank the claw screws while checking the tubjng until it is in tune again. For a mild case, try detuning a quarter step (ie, right between E and Eb for instance), and crank the claw screws until it is right.

If you have something that will block the bridge from raising and diving, this will likely be easier. Perhaps try a block to keep it from diving in the back of the guitar, and some popsicle sticks under the base plate to prevent the guitar from sinking into the body. Once you have basically isolated the bridge in both directions, put the strings on and tune them up, stretch them out, and intonate. This is assuming the truss rod is set correctly with enough relief and bridge height/string action are already correct. Once you have the strings broken in, intonated, etc, check to see if either block is easily removed. If so, remove it.

If you removed the item used to keep it from diving or pulling forward easily (very little effort to remove), then release the tension on the springs slightly (tuning should go slightly flat). Retune and see if the popsicle sticks (or whatever else) used can be removed easily or if the prcess needs to be repeated. It shouldn't require all that manh run throughs of this process. Do the opposite if the popsicle sticks were easily removed and the bridge is putting a lot of pressure on the block in the back of the guitar used to keep the trem from pulling forward.

As with anything mechanical, learn the basic fundamentals of how it operates. Floyd's are not that difficult once you truly understand how it works. Like many others, back in the day I used to change my strings one at a time. Since really learning these trems I now can remove it all from the guitar, change strings, adjust spring tension, float a FR, and tune in less than 30 minutes. Knowledge is golden. Hope this helps.

Thank you!! I did use a trem block but I still needed to tighten the springs?? All set now!

Having the opposite issue, bought a kh-202 used and my bridge is angled into the guitar, but it stays in tune somehow.😂

Hello. After leveling my bridge to a parallel position whenever i start tuning i lose half a step from my previous string and it keeps on increasing on all previous strings as i go further on tuning other strings. and the bridge keeps moving upwards without being able to reach a tune like ever. Is it a spring issue also? Hope you can help me.

My bridge is standing way up like that, if I add tension as tight as it goes its the same

Those are not bolts. They are wood screws. Also, there is no need to loosen the strings in order to tighten the screws.

I've been trying to get it for the last 3 hours 😢

Seriously people. Learn how to block your trem for easy setups... Here's an example from Stewmac's tutorials:
