As an istanbulite, I think you may also enjoy reading Orhan Pamuk. He is also known as "Istanbul author" because his novels are mostly set in Istanbul, chronicling the life in Istanbul from the 70s to the present. He has the autobiographical book “Istanbul: Memories and the City.” I highly recommend "My Name is Red"😄

So nice to se Vaishnavi Patel... It's pronounced K kayee... The character is a Queen Mother from the epic Ramayana and a telling or retelling of her tale

Just a note about the Liveship Traders trilogy by Robin Hobb. It is her second trilogy set in the larger World of the Elderlings. So, while you can totally start with Ship of Magic and keep to that trilogy, I just wanted you to be aware in case you think that if you really enjoy Robin Hobbs writing and the world, important events and the ending of the Farseer Trilogy are spoiled in the Liveship Traders trilogy. And some people don't really mind spoilers and that is also fine.

Hello! Thank you for this great video.

I'd like to share some information about the Robin Hobb novel. The trilogy you are looking at is (chronologically speaking) not the first one in that world. The characters are unique to that trilogy for the most part, but I believe that its main interest is that of complementary world-building to the three main trilogies revolving aroung Fitz (the assassin).
Because of this, the plot is mainly.... geopolitics/ economy - related. It can be a standalone trilogy, but it only makes sense (to me) as an add-on that enriches the other trilogies. I do recommend reading it, but.... Personnally, I don't find her 3rd-person multiple POV writing (in this one) to be as enjoyable as her 1st-person internal narration (used for Fitz).
Since there are light spoilers of the first Fitz trilogy in the Living Ship trilogy, I'd recommend starting with Assassin's Apprentice. (I'm super biased, I adore the Assassin's series, so I'd prioritise preserving that plot over my interest for pirates.)
Robin Hobb is my absolute favourite writer in the entire world, you're in for a treat no matter what!!! I just recommend going with the chronological order for a spoiler-free progression in her many (many, many) novels.

On the topic of pirates (re The Golden Age of Piracy), I recommend the fantasy series The Gentleman Bastard, by Scott Lynch, starting with book 1: The Lies of Locke Lamora. Book 2: Red Seas Under Red Skies is awesome and features pirates in such a fun way. If you've watched Merphy Napier's channel you've probably seen her plug that series to death!

I haven't yet read Robin Hobb (it's on my list!) but from my 'research' the trilogy with the pirates is in the same world with the Farseer trilogy (the one starting with Assassin's apprentice) and from what I understood Farseer is the first one... the trilogies can be read on their own, but apparently this piratey one is a bit 'spoilery' for the Farseer. In case you wanted to read that sometime, I thought you'd like to know :D

You'll like Rainer Maria Rilke (rill-kuh). If you are so inclined to get your hands on a physical copy of "Letters To a Young Poet, " try to get the edition with the young poet's letters in the back. It's a hardback with sky blue and black typeface on the cover, translated by Damian Searls, and published by Liveright Publishing Corporation in 2020.

If you are interested in books that are set in Istanbul and dealing with the history of the city, I can highly recommend anything by Orhan Pamuk. He is a brilliant author who writes in a beautiful way... my favourite book by him is "The museum of innocence"

totally agree with the Haruki Murakami books they are so beautiful in a haunting way and one keeps thinking about them even when they are over.
