Since the start of Putin's invasion in Ukraine, thousands of Russian men and families have fled, the majority escaping Russia’s military draft. Many are making their way to Mexico where they spend weeks on end waiting to enter the United States and claim asylum.

The saddest part of this is only people with money can escape

Good thing Mexico is reaching out to help, even with their own struggles. God bless all of them, Russians, ukranians and all alike

That last look the woman gives the camera as she crosses the border is so subtly incredible. Getting a Russian to smile at all is difficult, but you can see the relief glowing from her.

I am Russian born serving in the United States Army and I'm so proud of my fellow Russians taking the harrowing task of immigrating to the US just how I did many many years ago.

Sergei man thats a tough one I wanna give that guy a hug. He didn’t want to fight people who did nothing to him so he had to go thousands of miles away God my heart feels for bro.

Imagine this happening in your country... this is the other tragedy of war, all the people on the aggressor side who just wanted to live in peace. I'm glad Vice is covering this side too.

Its not cowardice, some people are just not comfortable killing other human beings for the government.

A lot of people are saying the USA is evil. How come it’s always their first choice to run to when they are in trouble.

Russia really do be making the US and Mexico sound like better countries than their own

Living in Mexico, and not the USA, is great, too. The Mexican people are warm and welcoming. There is plenty of opportunity here, so if the USA turns out be unattainable, don't hesitate to put down roots in Mexico.

My cousin was one of those people. Except from Belarus and not Russia. Even getting to the border is incredibly hard. Mexican police is everywhere along the route. She was apprehended by the US Border Patrol immediately after crossing the border. Soon she will be going to immigration court for a hearing on political asylum where the judge will determine if her case is valid or not.

I support them as long as they are truly anti Putin, and aren't just fleeing not to get drafted and still passively supporting the war. We've seen too many of those cases in Germany.

About a month ago I was in McAllen, TX, a small city just across the border from Reynosa, MX. As I was preparing to leave my motel, I encountered a group of Russians (about a dozen) who were staying in the same motel. About an hour later I saw them again at the Greyhound bus station. I talked to them a bit, but they didn't speak much English and I didn't want to appear nosy. I hope they are doing well.

I actually felt their excitement crossing over into the US. God bless Ukraine, God bless the people of Russia.
