NC Senate overrides Cooper veto of Helene relief bill that also strips powers from top Democrats

The North Carolina Senate voted Monday to override Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of a bill that would strip powers away from the governor, attorney general and other offices that Democrats won during the 2024 election.

Cooper's veto of Senate Bill 382 was overridden without any debate during Monday's session. Democrats who supported Cooper's veto previously gave lengthy speeches denouncing the proposal last month.

There should be immediate EMERGENCY RELIEF for these proud good people of NC. Shame on the Federal and State governments for not standing up and doing the right thing. Approve Tiny Home on a temporary ticket to get these people out of tents and protect them from the cold ...at least until warmer temperatures of April, and May arrive. Hey Governor, how about you go over to W. North Carolina and camp out in a tent next week so you can realize what these people are going through and anyone else that doesn't get the hardship these people are facing.

Who are the lawmakers who linked a political agenda to aid for hurricane relief? These are the most despicable people on the planet. Heartless! I want their names to be made public, so we in western NC can keep this in mind for the next election.

Questioning how much "relief aid" should be given to the people in western NC, really!!! These people have suffered and lost so much already. Some of them have lost everything, not to mention they may have also lost family members as well because of the devastation as a result of the hurricane. If it wasn't for them coming together as well as volunteers and people from non profit organizations helping everyone, these people wouldn't have had no support at all to start with. On day one, there was neighbors helping each other. Within a few days, there was countless volunteers and nonprofit organizations on the ground helping these people in WNC. Even though our democratic governor declared a state of emergency before the remnants of Helene devastated the western part of our state, it took about a week before our local National Guard (stationed here in NC) was deployed to WNC. Very disappointed in the response from our governor and federal government in giving aid to these people in this time of great need.

Don’t know about the rest of you but I’m here in NC. I was in this disaster, it’s not just Asheville that was affected. There are so many more places destroyed and folks who’ve lost everything. Cooper has been nothing but damaging to this state. It will take years to recover. FEMA and insurance are a joke
