I remember the Red Sox used to have a particular catcher for Tim Wakefield. Jason Varitek was the regular catcher with Doug Mirabelli partnering with Tim. He also didn't wear a traditional catcher's mitt.

I grew up watching Wilbur Wood, Phil Niekro, Joe Niekro, Charlie Hough and Tim Wakefield.. it takes a long time to master but once a pitcher figures the pitch out it can be a devastating weapon.

Knuckleballers usually throw like over half their pitches as knuckleballs. Not sure why really good pitchers don’t work on it to have pretty good one that they could throw 5 times a game. Imagine sitting on Verlander fastball and then seeing one of these.

Loved Tim Wakefield, I would practice a knuckleball all the time for fun, I ended up getting down pretty good. I can still throw with a few warm ups
