Sonics legend Gary Payton believes the NBA's return to Seattle is closer than ever

It's hard to believe, but it's been 16 long years since the NBA left Seattle.

It's wild to think that for a generation of Seattle kids, they've spent their entire lives, or close to it, without the NBA in town.

It's time to end that.

The rumors have been long-running and obvious: Seattle and Las Vegas appear poised and are perfect fits for the league should it expand.

Nope, the demographic has changed too much. The working class Seattle died in 1996. Sports is a huge distraction that materially benefits very few.
