That's high praise from John Stockton. Warrior like player. Could you imagine Gary Payton and John Stockton on a team.

GP is an all time great! Super smart had the whole bag. & he played in the greatest Era of point guards!

Normally, a defense executing a trap on an offensive player involves at least two teammates, but Gary Payton is the only guy i ever saw pulling it off solo, & being so effective at it that he forced the other team to burn a timeout.

GP greatest impact is on the defensive side especially in the 90s where positionless basketball wasn't relevant yet. Hounding the ball handler changed and disrupted the offense of the opposing teams

Magic, Zeke, Alan Iverson and Gary are my favourite ever point guards

Alot of his defense talk which he was great but in his prime GP was a guaranteed 20-24 ppg a night. While winning 50-60 games along with the defense.

The sonics and the bulls was my favorite series to watch, I wanted chicago to win in the nba finals because I'm a huge michael jordan fan as well as being a detroit pistons fan even with the rivalry between the pistons and the bulls and I'm from seattle too. I really like every team in the 90s since there was so much competition and talent on every team from every position that being a 2 way player was common and players could both play offense and defense and the defense being played as well. I would have magic johnson as my number 1 point guard because he was a winner and my number 2 point guard would be gary payton because him and michael jordan were the only guards that won defensive player of the year award since the defensive player of the year award normally goes to big men plus michael jordan would try to do whatever it took to win plus it was an anomaly for guards to win defensive player year of the award. Nowadays it looks like players wanna just shoot 3 pointers and barely put any effort on playing any hard nose defense. It's why I appreciate the detroit pistons in 2004 and being able to try to shut down teams under 70 points.

As a Rockets fan, it used to drive me crazy how nervous he would have Kenny Smith, and I mean on some street sht. If it wasn't for Sam Cassell, we would never have gotten by Seattle.

I got a little tired of his "bravado." Nonetheless, he was a terrific point, combo guard who gave everyone s handful.
And yeah while he is known as a point, he was really more of a combo. Stockton, Kidd, Cheeks are pure points. Gary in his prime also looked to score and did well in that regard as well.
He was at least, a bit of an old school combo like West, Frazier, Maravich.

8:53 Someone please show that clip of Stockton's no look pass to Rusty Buckets so he can get his head out of his ass about John Stockton! I can respect the fact that he built the platform that he built because I know it's not easy but he also says some pretty crazy things like his take on John Stockton being average without Karl Malone because he didn't make difficult passes.
