Our series, A More Perfect Union, aims to show that what unites us as Americans is far greater than what divides us. In this installment, we share the story of an unusual traffic stop. New Jersey State Trooper Michael Patterson pulled over a retired police offier earlier this month. Michelle Miller shows how the chance encounter led to a reunion that was 27 years in the making.

The baby grew up knowing about a policeman who saved him and wanted to become a policeman and do good things too. Their purpose of life indeed.

I remember reading about an even more extraordinary story. A police officer saved the life of a baby being born on the side of the road by rendering medical assistance. 20 years later, the retired officer had a heart attack and pulled over on the side of the road. His life was saved--by the baby he had delivered 20 years earlier, who had grown up in turn to become a police officer.

I'd bet the cop who delivered him is also very proud of him becoming a state trooper.

The mom apologized for getting emotional, but I think it was beautiful how much she appreciated the officer.

Seeing mum tearful still after all these with the man who delivered her baby is so sweet. Big thanks to people like Mr Bailly for these outstanding moments

I love a thin thread -what a great story. But that mother ...she is the epitome of eloquence, depth, poise, emotion you name it. Which is why her kid is the amazing gentleman he is.

They've ran into each several times over the years and didn't know it. They are meant to be in each other's lives! So cool. I am ADDICTED to these types of stories.

Big shout out to CBS for actually putting something positive in the light when there is so much darkness over shadowing the good deeds
