Singapore researchers aim to reduce rate of blindness caused by glaucoma

Researchers in Singapore are aiming to bring down the rate of blindness caused by glaucoma in the next decade. A new S$25 million five-year research programme is also looking to improve the quality of life for seniors. CNA spoke to Professor Tina Wong, Head of the Glaucoma Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre and Director of Clinical Translational Research at the Singapore Eye Research Institute.

It's been a year since this video was out. Now its 2024 August. What did the trial (1 year milestone of the 2 years) reveal? I just saw my GS at SNEC and asked about B3 supplement, I received a "you know its a supplement" look (yes rightfully) but this was mentioned by Prof Wong in this video (1 year ago?) so no further results (was this part of the $25m research fund)? Nonetheless, SNEC is making strides, please do much more, the processes for patients also need improving at the 1C (subsidised) clinics. Thank you.

They added that the move to increase contributions to Medisave contrasts with the SDP’s plan, an 87-page alternative proposal, which shifts the onus of paying for the country’s healthcare expenses onto the government, a practice in line with other comparable European and Asian economies.

The proposal calls for a reform of the existing healthcare financing system to one that is universal, affordable and sustainable. It proposes a single-payer, national insurance system when the state assumes the major portion of the country’s healthcare expenditure.
Referencing to PM Lee Hsien Loong’s announcement during the National Day Rally speech in 2013 that contributions to Medisave will have to increase, the party asked if this meant Singaporeans will have to continue to shoulder the main bulk of the national healthcare expenditure with the increased contributions.
