DAS and Sensors Fundamentals: Part 3 - Sensors, Sensitivity & Shunt Checks (23.11 min)
Показать описание
Mike Beckage, co-founder of DTS (Diversified Technical Systems), talks about Data Acquisition System (DAS) Sensors, how they work, what types of sensors there are, and how it all relates to DAS. From basic transducer theory and piezoresistance, to load cells and sensor sensitivity,
Mike goes into easy-to-understand detail about the Wheatstone Bridge, first created by Charles Wheatstone in 1843, and is the basis of load cells and accelerometers, even today. The changes in resistance in the bridge causes a small change in voltage change at the signal output and is recorded by a data acquisition system.
Mike explains the importance of knowing what type of sensor you are using when setting up DAS. Sensors which use simple resistive bridges (Wheatstone) are passive transducers and examples of sensors in this category include Piezo-resistive accelerometers, dummy load cells, and strain gages.
There are also active sensors which have some sensing technology inside, as well as a tiny circuit that might amplify signal or do other things.
Angular Rate Sensors (ARS) are examples of an active sensor.
Mike finishes this video talk speaking about the importance of running empirical tests in the initial stages of setting up DAS tests.
