Berlin in the 1930s. Cabaret star Hans Zeisig has stretched his luck a bit too far: with Hitler in power, it's no longer advisable to make fun of the Führer, and Zeisig has to flee. But instead of heading for Hollywood, he ends up in Moscow as Stalin's personal astrologer, living with Communism's grandees in the notorious Hotel Lux...

"Hotel Lux" pokes fun at both the Nazi regime and Stalin´s regime of terror, masterfully merging a Lubitsch-style screwball comedy with tragic elements reminiscent of ´La vita è bella´. Directed by Leander Haußmann ("Sun Alley") and produced by Günter Rohrbach ("The Boat", "The NeverEnding Story"), the film boasts a screenplay full of twists and turns, as well as superb performances by Michael Bully Herbig ("Dreamship Surprise", "Lissi and the Wild Emperor"), Jürgen Vogel ("The Wave", "The Free Will", "Naked") and Thekla Reuten ("The American", "In Bruges").
