I had the total knee replacement in 2020 and I had a MUA a week ago yesterday. He also removed some scar tissue. So far my gait is better (no more limp), and I can bend it to 125. I was at 85. Big improvement. I'm so happy it is working for me.

My wife had a TKR knee replacement 10 weeks ago and despite all of her hard work post-surgery she plateaued at only 95% ROM. Her doctor suggested a MUA which she had. She's now at 120% and able to ride a stationary bike which was impossible previously. More importantly she's now able to walk up/down stairs normally which is difficult at best at 95%. We're very glad that she underwent the procedure. It's not painless, but definitely can be worth it. Obviously, everyone is different, but MUA can make a huge difference.

Thankyou for explaining your pain. I'm 8 weeks with restless legs, little sleep, 78deg bend and the possibility of mua in another 4 weeks. Scary. Like thing I've ever agreed to, the other knee won't ever be touched by anyone other than me!! Absolutely unrelenting pain despite " painkillers". Best wishes for your total recovery.

I had an MUA 4 months after second surgery and had absolutely no problems. Because I had to have two surgeries, I had a lot of scar tissue and that is why my surgeon did the MUA. I would highly recommend it! I had absolutely no pain after the procedure or since.

I cannot thank you enough for your videos describing your experience. I went for a simple arthroscopic meniscus repair. First two days everything was great no pain meds needed. Third day I was in the most excruciating pain over ever been in and that includes breaking my back 5 years ago. So I went to the ER and they sent me to the hospital. Come to find out I had a massive MRSA infection in my knee and a blood clot in my leg. They then did a second surgery cleaning out the infection and put me on the strongest antibiotics there is. I stayed in the hospital 2 weeks. Because of the infection my knee was in the same position for 10 days after surgery, I didn’t even get out of bed until after that. Now I’m dealing with the results, constant pain and very limited range. After 30 days of PT I’ve only been able to reach 65 degrees flextion. I see the Dr. again in 2 days and I fear he is going to suggest MUA. I don’t fear the procedure but I fear the pain afterwards. I feel I will begin therapy all over again.
But now I can get around with a walker but I still can’t do stairs because I can’t put enough weight on the injured leg. Feeling extremely frustrated and angry. Sorry for the long post but just had to get it off my chest to someone who knows.

I had the TKR September 27th. Only had 80 degrees. Had the MUA at 11 weeks when I was to.d it would not change. That procedure it to tear the scar tissue loose. So yes it hurts a lot. You are pulling muscles till the scare tissue rips. This pulled all my thigh muscles. It`s now January 13th and I still have pain. I stretch the thigh muscles by stepping off the bottom step with the good foot a d stooping as low as I can go.
After the MUA I was at 110. My PT told me he thought that was going to be it. I tripped over a threshold and smacked my knee into a metal door frame. A glancing blow that was horrible to the outside of the knee. 2 days later it felt like it could move. I was at 115. A week later 120 and now 125.
Now if the pain would stop it would be great. If I walk or bike to hard it swells and hurts again. But it works.

I'm with you. I wish I never had it done. Even after MUA no better.

I have a couple suggestions for you and for those going through hypersensitivity and restless leg syndrome and what I refer to as "buzzing" nerves in my knee. I started taking 2 Valerian Root capsules at night. I also had the doctor prescribe me something called "compound cream" made specifically at certain drug manufacturers that has around a dozen medications that get applied topically so you don't have to take opioids. I also apply Valerian Root cream. All of these combinations have calmed my knee down quite a bit. My knee was hypersensitive that having anything touch it sent me through the roof. The Valerian Root capsules seem to calm down the sciatica issue somewhat, also, so it doesn't hurt as much as it had. These combinations have worked for me. Just suggestions for all of you to look into to see if any of these will help.

I am at about 9 weeks of a TKR. Sir, I agree with you…if my left knee gets painful (it is fine right now🤞🏼🙏🏼) I will NOT have this done on that knee. I gave birth to two children and had a shoulder and hip replacement and the pain wasn’t as bad with those as it has been with this knee replacement has been!!

Hey! I had my knee replacement surgery on 6/24 and I TOTALLY understand where you are at...I can straighten my leg and walk on it, but my bend is only at 77⁰ and it is CONSTANT pain...especially with PT and afterwards!!! I wanted to use a CPM Machine but my DR didn't prescribe it, so all I have is the pain! I am sorry you are in all that pain and I hope it will get better for you ..and for me, too! I couldn't bend my knee before surgery, so I don't know HOW they expect me to bend it after surgery...

Complain as much as you want. Pt hurts like crazy. My range is 105 when I left pt. I am still working at it’s. God bless you on your journey.

Thank you for the video
I'm not sure where you are on your journey now at the moment. I see you have had an MUA and you are in a lot of pain. I am 14 weeks post TKR I couldn't achieve the bend either and had a MUA 2 weeks ago and like you I achieved maximum flexion under anaesthesia. I also had nerve blocks. My quad muscle is now very tight and when I stretch it seems to go into a spasm.

I was sent home with physiotherapy exercises and paracetamol a very low dose of pain relief they would not give me anything more. I was doing my PT at home crying and feeling very low whilst trying to maintain the flexion I had left the hospital with after my MUA. How do they expect us to maintain the same flexion that we had under anaesthesia?
2 weeks on and the pain is less I do have flexion however it is like pushing through toffee. What and why is this? I suppose I should be grateful I can at least bend, but by no means is this normal or acceptable and like you if you ask me now no I would never have this done again. This is a very long and painful journey, it is like having a baby strapped in my leg that needs constant attention, when will all of this end?
How are you doing now? Your journey has been identical to mine, I'm so glad I am not alone.

I feel your pain and I thank you for sharing. I just had the surgery on 11-15-24 and I’m only at 65%. They are giving me until 1-13-25 to get it to 90% or I will have to have the manual manipulation also. I don’t want it and I don’t think I will be getting my other knee done at this point. Like you said, I will have to see later. The scar tissues forming and the swelling is messing everything up. I pray you get relief and we both can get to the promise of a healthy knee.

Thanks for the video. Im 8 weeks out. I still have pain but not bad. I was able to get the extension and flexion in my knee so at my 6 week check up the doctor was satisfied with the flexibility. Im glad I did not have to do the MUA. It has not been fun. Physical Therapy is painful and makes the knee tight and increases the swelling. I had no Idea about scar tissue forming after surgery and the pain do break through it. The first week was hell so I get what you are saying. Im walking with a cane and can walk without one but the surgery makes your quad muscles weak and that makes it hard to walk. I get pain in my knee after I have been walking. The pain is in different parts, back, front, sides and under the knee cap. This has been the hardest thing physically I have ever done. You literally have to learn to walk again. You have it harder because of the flexibility issue. Everyone is different. Some people get lucky and can walk without a cane at 3 weeks! Im taking it slow with finally abandoning the cane because there is no hurry since Im retired. My left knee isnt great but Im going to wear a Don Joy knee brace and keep strengthening the muscles so I dont have to do a knee replacement. At this point I will do whatever it takes to avoid another one. I get where you are coming from with that. It will get better, its really hard now but eventually you will start walking. It totally sucks but stay positive. Take care and thanks for posting the video. Everyone is different and we all have different rates of recovery from this surgery

I had total knee replacement 8 weeks ago and have max 95 degree bend with extreme pain. Next Thursday my surgeon is doing MUA. I hope it’s successful but we will see. Your story is identical to mine. Pain all the time and I regret having it done. My left knee is bone on bone too and after the right knee on going experience, I won’t have it done. Hope your recovery improves.

That’s why I did both my knees the same day! Today I’m 13 weeks post operation and I have 0-118 or so on both legs!
I understand your pain as I’ve done this whole BLKR without opiates…

Thanks for this video. I'm currently recovering from patellar tendon surgery and also trying to achieve the bends. As of today I'm at 58°, but supposed to be at 60°. My situation looks like a cakewalk compared to yours. Kudos to you that you recovered from this ordeal
