He didn't even talk about counterpoint, he just played drop 2 voicings with a melody on top, in simple words it's fingerstyle not counterpuntal playing. If you can hear two independent melodies flowing together nicely that makes a counterpoint. If you guys really want to learn how to play counterpoint check out Antoine Boyer, Sergio Assad, Ben Monder or listen to two hand inventions by Bach. For starters try to transcribe an arrangement by Antoine Boyer, if it's tough for you can find tabs for some of his arrangements on this channel whose name I am forgetting right now. Just write Antoine Boyer transcriptions and you will find it.

Dude seems very passionate, but also like he did a bunch of coke and wanted to talk about counterpoint and never got around to it.

"This is for advanced players only, for people that really understand the fretboard and what music fundamentally is" has got to be a contender for the most obnoxious statement made by someone ever.

Firstly, no one knows fundamentally what music really is, great thinkers have debated this topic for decades and many schools of thought have reached different conclusions, of course, you'd know this if you had any clue what you're talking about.

Secondly, you achieved zero counterpoints in this video, whether "implied" as you suggest or not. People have already roasted you on that in the comments under this video so I won't do it again.

Thirdly, having a deep understanding of music or knowledge of the fingerboard are not prerequisites for applying and playing contrapuntal ideas. Counterpoint is purely the idea of having independent lines played under a context (usually musical).

Fourthly, you talk about the melody and its context, and the history that comes along with it. This would have been a good point had you actually played the melody correctly at any point in this video. But unsurprisingly you didn't, and so you're just saying words that seem to make sense individually but when you combine and hear the entire sentence you say with those it's clear that it is utter nonsense.

Ironically, this video showed not only that you aren't an advanced player, but rather someone who likes to talk a lot to mean very little.

Have a nice day.
