Basically a giant tank of molasses exploded and flooded Boston in 1919, and killed a bunch of people due to poor safety measures causing failure.

On my first day of chemistry in high school, we got derailed talking about it. The phrase “the great Boston molasses disaster/ the molassacre of 1919” is stuck in my head forever now.

The tank exploded because it was designed by an accountant instead of an engineer.

Gravity Fall gets a resurgence every time Alex Hirsch open his mouth.
Said resurgence can last up to 6 months if he's released new material for Gravity Falls.

Oh, I guess the Boston Molasses Flood isn't common knowledge... 😹 Tbh, I probably should've guessed it wouldn't...

The Boston molasses flood is when a big tank of molasses burst, spilling it all into the streets. Molasses is of course a very slow-flowing liquid, but just like lava that just means it’s Deceptively Fast. It caused a bunch of property damage, I don’t remember if anyone got killed but people were definitely injured. It flowed out into the bay eventually, but the whole district stank of molasses for a hundred years.

We also just create media that doesn't exist and fandoms for it. Man, love Goncerov.

14:40 fun fact: (AS FAR AS I KNOW) "Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" is physically impossible and the phrase originally meant just that, an impossible task.

Edit: Wrong video, but I'll leave it for the algorithm

Tumblr also celebrates the Ides of March as if it's Christmas.

The Great Molasses Flood, also known as the Boston Molasses Disaster, was a disaster that occurred on Wednesday, January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. A large storage tank filled with 2.3 million U.S. gallons (8, 700 cubic meters) of molasses, weighing approximately[b] 13, 000 short tons (12, 000 metric tons) burst, and the resultant wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 miles per hour (56 kilometers per hour), killing 21 people and injuring 150. The event entered local folklore and residents reported for decades afterwards that the area still smelled of molasses on hot summer days.

As a Tumblr initiate, I have no idea why my fellow cultists go insane over Julius Caesar’s assassination, but I do know that the memes are really funny.
