Leveled by 2.3 Million Gallons of Molasses:

The Boston Molasses Flood, also known as The Boston Molasses Disaster, is an unusual industrial disaster that took place in the year 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts. Eager to capitalize on the vast munitions market during the first world war, the U.S. Industrial Alcohol company built an enormous vat to contain large amounts of molasses which were fermented an converted into industrial alcohol.

Blinded by this mission, they ignored safety precautions and did not build it properly to specifications. This led to a catastrophic failure of the container, spewing millions of gallons of molasses and wreaking havoc on the area around the facility. Watch this unusual disaster documentary on the Great Boston Molasses Flood to learn a bit of fascinating and bizarre U.S. history.

Interesting. I didn't know about the salt water clean-up thing. I would've thought steam or hot water.
On a side note, I have had horses since 1982, as well as having been around them my entire life and a probable cause for the deaths of those stuck in the molasses could be two - fold. First, they have to be able to swing their heads and necks to get up from a flat-out laying down position. Second, due to their large size, they can't lay flat for very long or they will suffocate. Just a little trivia. 😉
Great video! Keep 'em coming. 😊
