Fun fact, the caterpillar doesn’t change one thing at a time, it turns into a goop like substance and rearranges themselves

Fun fact: butterflies can remember things they experienced when they were caterpillars, despite the fact they turn to goo in the pupa.

I miss this. My brother and I raised five of them when I was ten years old. That was 53 years ago. I don’t find the eggs or caterpillars on the milkweed plants like we used to.

Years and years ago, my 5th grade class raised and eventually released a bunch of monarch butterflies. It was one of the most emotionally meaningful things I’ve ever done. The day we released them was one of the happiest days of my life.

Monarch a great example of pupation. Almost alien-like how it sheds it's skin, forms the pupa case, emerges as a butterfly on the other side. God's design majesty.

Bless their little hearts… it must be a painful transition.

I literally had the pleasure of experiencing this with one monarch, and she walked all over my hands/arms and watched her dry out and get ready to go on her first flight. It was incredible❤

Glad to see people are helping the Monarch butterflies. They are endangered by farmers that don’t know that they are actually good pollinators.

Moths and butterfly's are fascinatingly beautiful creatures. Having a small butterfly eat salt from my forearm sweat is a memory and sensation I'll never forget. Electric blue wings slowly closing to white, then a flash of blue, magical.

In childhood I had taken care of cocoons and played with butterflies when they came out from it.
I had experienced that❤
It's truly cute moment to feel the touch of butterfly. More, when you have taken care of it.❤❤

I love butterflies, I was at a butterfly exhibit employees examine you from head to toe when leaving the enclosure to check to see if there are any what they call "hitchhikers" on you, one time a woman was letting her young daughter run wild in the exhibit, she was chasing the butterflies while screaming, shrieking, yelling, shouting, squealing at the butterflies the woman was ignoring her, I reported them I don't know if all that activity from the child was traumatizing the butterflies perhaps it was

When I was in 2nd grade, we raised caterpillars into butterflies. On they day we released them, we went outside and opened the net. They went out but stuck around the kids. The last on flew out, and then a bird came. Long story short the bid ate the butterfly and everyone cried that day. It was traumatizing for a 2nd grader😢

It's incredible to see how life is generated with such wonder of complexity and we take is as a granted.
