To clarify, you actually can use AHAs during pregnancies.. The standard of care would be strict sun protection, AHAs, and azelaic acid for melasma during pregnancy when you cannot use retinoids, hydroquinone, BHAs.

I would love an update! Did you do all the sessions? Is all the melasma gone?

I’m the lucky 10% of men that have it 🙄. I’ve been able to reduce it a lot but not completely. I recently went to the dermatologist to get Tran and add that to my skin care to see if that does anything. Sucks so much I have avoided the saunas 😔😭. I notice I got it after taking meds from my wisdom removal . So thinking doing a detox. But I have been looking into pico laser

Alsoooo there’s an oral tranexamic acid pill that some derms prescribe and since you’re off BC you may have better luck. It completely cleared my friends Melasma but does come with risks/side effects. Meant to be taken short term tho, hope this helps.

My melasma was triggered by a radio frequency treatment. I have melasma on both cheeks and it drives me nuts! I realise that it is about management and the acceptance that melasma lightens and darkens depending on sun, hormones and heat. I tried Picosure and had 3 sessions. It does work, but it didn't completely eradicate it for me. Tranexamic acid is my current tool in the battle against melasma!

Before treating Melasma always do check level of Ferritin/ Thyroid profile/ HbA1c in lab tests. Ferritin must be upto 80

Maybe when you are outdoors in the heat, you can use a personal fan like the ones people wear around their necks. Your internal body temp isn’t the problem (it stays around 98.6) but the surface of your skin is gettin hot.

I had picosure three years ago for three age spots on my legs. The derm was a big-City experienced doctor. One treatment. They scabbed and oozed for two weeks. Spots were darker for the first year. Now they are bleached out and crusty. Solved the dark spots but still not attractive. And I sure won’t do the age spot on my chest because I will not keep it covered for a year.

So happy for you! I have melasma as well, and it’s sooo frustrating! Certainly going to look into this. I’ve had the moxie laser and saw decent results, but of course - they haven’t been lasting. This might sound dumb, but did he treat your entire face or just the areas affected?

I have terribly melasma as well. My derm. Told me micro needling, peels, scrubs, and even a sonic face brush makes melasma worse by causing inflammation. 😟

I got PICO almost 20 days ago and the hyperpigmentation in my skin is gone and it looked so bright, but I have so much dryness in my face. I have small rash like pimples on my face as well. The clinic said its normal but I am skeptical. Did you experience this?
