Turning Twice Turned Bowl - Finishing the MGM Experiment on How To Dry Green Wood Bowls

I demonstrate the finish or second turning of a previously roughed out Bradford Pear bowl that is completely dry. This was the end of a collaborative effort of Larry Randolph (Missouri), Mike Peace (Georgia) and Sam Angelo (Montanta) to rough out, dry and finish turn a similar size bowls turned from the same tree.

I have had my C for going on 4 years now ... love it more every day! I teach at a school that has the B model, and though the B was a great lathe, Powermatic made so many improvements in the C that I have trouble going back and forth!

Gorgeous turning, Mike. Just goes to show you don't need a chainsaw and a tree trunk to produce a beautiful bowl!

Initially I thought you had a new Laguna, then the camera backed out. Good looking lathe Mike.
Love the bowl too. Simple elegance,

Congratulations on the new lathe, while I don't have the anniversary version I do have a C and really enjoy it. In fact, I brought it partially based on your review of the B.

Mike, at the 6:19 point on while trying to finish the inside bottom of the bowl, you could have really used one of Robust’s “J” rest to help from the problems caused by having to extend so far over the rest. Just saying. Cherry, Tom

Is that a new Powermatic Anniversary lathe? It would be interesting to see you do a video on how it compares to the other lathes you have used.

Great video Mike. I currently have a problem with a piece I am turning. I chucked the piece between live centres and have the point in the base. It will be cut off so that I can get down to the tendon that I have created. How do I reestablish the point before reversing it into my chuck?

I love highly finished Bradford Pear. It makes beautiful pieces of art.
Love the Bradford Peace 2022 bowl. 😉
Just a suggestion, for video quality, maybe turn off the auto-focus on the close-up shooting? Set your focal length and go with it. That auto setting keeps adjusting and throws the video out of focus. I think the camera is either having issues with the spinning subject or the shavings are triggering the focal length. Of course it is up to you, but as I said, just a suggestion. You'll get used to the extra camera step of adjusting the focus manually in no time. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing.

Mike starting at the 11:18 the auto focus glitch ruined an otherwise good videos. Har to get the good info and tips with the distraction of the in focus - out of focus going on. Still some good tips. Hope you can correct that before it ruins another video. Cheers, Tom
