As much as I understand the desire to hear something "new" from artists, I thought this one was just something he was feeling and felt satisfied about it as is. Personally, it's great. Almost like a break from what he previously produced, so there's room to breathe if that makes sense.

More people in his chat disliked it than I expected, somehow. I like it, though. Aesthetically it has the same Joji vibe but his vocal performance sounds very consistent here and it's not trying to be too weird or "different" - I get people who say it seems like more of the same but personally getting more of the same in a MUCH improved way isn't a downside to me, it still shows growth as an artist.

People expect too much change from him for some reason when it's likely their favorite artist sounds pretty similar to their previous works because that's how musicians tend to be. Change is most often gradual. Also, singles are usually the safe picks to play on the radio or on streaming services anyways, so if there is an LP or EP to come from this I'd expect more variety whenever that releases. We saw some interesting stylistic change-ups on Nectar, but the singles were very same-y (although very good, IMO).
