I really don't know what will happen but being an ESL teacher (who happens to be a Filipino) in Shanghai and Beijing from 2009-2012, I have seen how westernized these two Chinese cities have become. The Chinese have been studying English left and right and my Chinese boss who owns two schools in Beijing has opened a school in the US. Now, China has Disneyland in Shanghai. I also know that some American soldiers have said that they have no plans of fighting a war for a country that kicked out the US bases. Most probably, the US will just give weapons to Filipinos if Filipinos want to confront China militarily but I know China will win that war unfortunately.

you are seating in the comfort of your home. Word of advice, if there will be shooting and war in this part of Asia, it is US, not you who will do the shooting and killing. Nice try of analyzing the so called "political economy" but remember also, WAR IS EXTENSION OF POLITICS, unfortunately, China will not stake that risk, bear in mind that they are shifting their gear to in West Philippine Sea, to divert their domestic problems and unity of their people. Yes, we are militarily weak, but history had taught us, that in world war 2, Pres. Roosevelt abandoned the soldiers in bataan and corregidor for Europe and stopping Hitler. In case the united states will not fight and honor its treaty obligation, well, i may say history simply has a way of repeating itself. Yes, this is the 21st century, but there are events that simply recur in various size, shape or form, so do not discount this phenomena.
