I have 1 APOE4, my mom had dementia for 6 years before she passed five months after turning 100.
I started keto diet in 2017, went more paleo in 2020, having cassava and sourdough bread once in a while.
The amount of oxalate rich vegetables that I ate because they're "healthy" have had me in pain for over a year. My kidneys are fine. My joints, muscles, tendons hurt so much that I want to cry. If I eat "a little" oxalate rich food I might feel a little relieve for few hours. I'm a different person. Excercising is exhausting. I used to lift weights and run up stairs.
Please be aware that oxalates are highly toxic, it's not a sensitivity, like with mercury, arsenic, and other poisons, these accumulate in joints and or organs, including the brain, and destroy people's lives.
Most vegetables are toxic. Chard, spinach, rhubarb, beets, almonds, plantains and bananas, kiwi, turmeric, all spice, black pepper, cumin, dark chocolate and cocoa.
These toxic foods if eaten, it should be as an occassional garnish, if you really want that sht.

I was diagnosed with a Degenerative Brain Disease - NOS at Emory Brain Center Atlanta in March 2014. My father died of Dementia in June 2014. A cranial autopsy revealed frontal temporal dementia. I’ve been caring for my mother for the past 8 years. She has Alzheimer’s and is now in memory care. I didn’t take my diagnosis seriously until 2022 after learning dementia is considered type 3 diabetes and a Ketogenic diet may help. January 2022, I went full throttle into a Ketogenic diet, one meal a day in a 4 hour eating window and fasting 20 hours. I walked 8 miles every other day. October 2022, I had lost 60 lbs, had the best blood test results ever and got off 7 medications I had been on for 20+ years (under doctor supervision). My doctor told me, “Statistics show you have a 2% chance of sustaining what you’ve achieved.” How depressing!!! The next time I saw my doctor was this past Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He said, “My God, what have you been doing to look so young and healthy?” I said, “I’ve been beating statistics and sustaining what I’ve achieved.” My blood test results were even better. He suggested adding High Impact Interval Training and resistance training which I had already started after watching Dr. Sean O’Mara about eliminating visceral fat. Oh…I had lost 1 more pound since October 2022. The foods I eat are GFGF 85/15 ground beef, Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon, Pasture raised eggs, wild caught sardines and BIG A$$, raw, multi-vegetable salads with organic olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I use salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper. I drink two cups of coffee each morning and make a lime infused slushy with MCT oil, electrolyte powder and apple cider vinegar and I drink filtered water the rest of the day. Am I cured from my risk of Dementia? Who knows, but what I do know is I’m functioning well physically and cognitively and my back up plan?….Since I was rejected for long-term care insurance, I found a beautiful, long-term care facility in my favorite international destination…Chiang Mai, Thailand for a fraction of the cost of US facilities and I guarantee the caregivers/nurses will be superior to the US.

One path she didn’t mention is the Carnivore way of eating. It should be talked about as a option for optimising health

When I started Keto, I was caring for my mother who has Alzheimer’s. I purged the house of every food that was not approved for my diet. Whenever I was hit with an evening craving, I had to get in the car and drive to the store. The deeper I got into Ketosis, those cravings were rare. My mother is no in long-term memory care and I’m back home. My wife and son had unapproved food in the house and it was very hard for me. Thankfully, they locked away or hid foods I can’t eat. A few months later they decided to rid the house of the unapproved foods. My 34 y/o Asperger’s son has lost 53 lbs and my wife 30 lbs.

My mother had Alzheimer’s. There is a substantial amount of research supporting that glucose level are related to Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Alzheimer’s is being called the new form of Diabetes because of the connection to glucose levels. So, yes, Keto reduces glucose levels, but so does intermittent fasting. For someone who is a vegetarian, like me, I prefer intermittent fasting. Autophagy occurs after 17 or so hours.

Nattokinase/Serrapeptase is helping me. I take it before food in the AM. Amazing progress when I combine with keto and Intermittent Fasting.

TUDCA also helped, especially right after I got hit in the head.

I’m almost at 4 years with post-concussive syndrome and my gains had completely plateaued for over a year until I started being in Ketosis, Intermittent Fasting, and Serrapeptase/Nattokinase. Sometimes about 1/2-1 hour after the Nattokinase/Serrapeptase blend I will have a couple cups of coffee, no sugars of any sort though. The fake sugars still spike blood sugar, so I just avoid.

@26:12 Lauricidin is not something that is found in coconut oil. It is the registered name of a manufactured product derived from coconut oil.

I get out of ketosis when I eat protein. I'm never 100% of the time in ketosis on a carnivore diet. So yes I agree we shouldn't be in ketosis all the time, but you don't need to change your diet for it. Eating a species appropriate diet does that naturally.

While all is changing constantly this is just a guess. The best answer might be maybe.
