This is despicable, my lease ends in July and I’ve already for the last two month started worrying about 1. If I’m even going to get a new lease and 2. How much it’s going to go up by if I do get a new lease. And what’s changed in the last year absolutely nothing, fans don’t work properly I get told directly face to face by the landlord to buy a industrial fan, door handle breaks I have to end up repairing it myself because they do absolutely nothing, yard gets water logged I just have to deal with the water till it finally gets dried up by the sun, cornices are crumbling yeah we’ll fix that has stayed the same since 2019, mowing included in the rent doesn’t have a catcher while mowing leaves grass everywhere, I end up raking and weed eating myself, was told a side fence will be built a year after I moved in it’s been 4 years and I’ve had to build my own. And all in that time my rent has going up twice by a total of $40 per fortnight and as a single parent on jobseeker $40 may as well be $400 cause that what it feels like.

I empathise with you. This just recently happened to me and my little family in Queensland. Our rent increased by $300 high end rent and the house is the most messiest disgusting house I ever lived in throughout my whole renting history. I am house proud and have reasonable standards but for $750 I want a clean functioning house at least. Property owners are taking advantage of people’s desperation. I said to my husband I will stay there because I have no choice but I won’t live there. And you don’t fully know the house and how it works until you live in it. Renters do have rights but it’s the hoops you have to jump through that puts people off.

I have no sympathy for people who submit to landlords.
Stop paying them.
